Canyon Bikes Experiences?

Make sure you use their sizing tool on line and don’t just buy the size or geometry you normally would. I put in my numbers and it actually said something to the effect of “no size fits you”. :joy:

What are the odds of damaging it on a trainer vs. wrecking on the road? The worst thing I’ve ever done on a trainer was blow out a tire doing a sprint on a wheel-on. The heck are you guys doing on your trainers?

I got a Aeroad CF SLX in late 2017 from Canyon Australia.

Fit was based on the online tool, which worked out fine. Its my primary race bike. Used it also for long events like the 10-ish hr Peaks Challenge Falls Creek for the past 2 years. They were quite helpful with questions etc during purchasing. Delivered on time. Havnen’t had any issue with the bike so far.

Would not hesitate to buy another bike from them.

I’ll have to get back to you. Bought an Inflite SLX 9 last year. It’s been great, truly. Lots of road miles and a bunch of cx racing. The only real out-of-the-box issue was the rear derailleur b-screw wasn’t adjusted far enough out for the 36t cog on the cassette. Fit-wise, with the integrated bar/stem, you better not be too picky. Parts seem to be difficult. The headset bearings were all seized up this spring, and it’s not been easy to find replacements.

But I’m about to experience the warranty process. I’ve got some possible cracking on the shouldering-crook. I sent pictures in 2 weeks ago. Then a week ago they let me know it was being escalated. And today they sent me a shipping label and asked me to send it back. Turn around is expected to be a month. Scary. Good thing I still have the trainer, but I’m going to miss all the nice spring weather on the funnest bike I’ve ever owned.

I have an 2018 Aeroad. Best bike I’ve owned. Love it!

I am going to suggest its simply a warranty opt-out clause. Like most manufactures, they will limit their warranty to anything that may or may not have an impact.
perhaps once someone made a claim that the rear drop out or stay cracked. “oh I’ve only had it in the trainer” may have been the line used…
having said that there is a fair bit of movement in the frame in that area, as it is designed to do.

Regarding trainer use, Canyon have openly been showing their riders using Canyons on trainers in Zwift tie-ins for at least the last two years. They’ve also now have their own E-racing team (Canyon ZCC eRacing Team Announced | Zwift Insider) so if its OK for 5w/kg riders to race on Zwift its ok for me to do a TR work out. (Though I don’t whale on the bars in out of the saddle sprints etc).

Yep. At least on the 62mm Reynolds Strike wheels mine came with. My instagram is @RySpy3000 and I posted some pics and video awhile back of the clearance.

Thanks for that. Now to convince my better half that it’s best I spend up big on this bike because it will be definitely, positively, absolutely the last one I ever buy … until the next one!

I have the 9.0 AXS build Ultimate showing up on Tuesday. Took a few months of watching my email for the in-stock notice. I had actually called 2 weeks ago and was told they were looking like July, so I also bought a Tarmac frameset, axs groupset, wheels… The email this week was a surprise…

After a lot of indecision, decided to order an not miss out again. They were gone in 2 days last time they came in…

But also demo’d an S-Works AXS Tarmac on a great mixed 40 miles in the foothills today. It’s an incredible bike, but not sure it’s a 3500k better bike. Tarmac may be the better bike overall, but if it is, it’s not 30% better. Think I am going to put the Roval wheels on the Canyon, sell the DTs ARC 1400s that come on it, and return the other stuff that’s sitting unopened. Will save me enough money to prob get the gravel bike I want before Lost & Found.

Anyway, I’ll try and report back when I have time to open it up, assemble, and get a good day or two in the saddle…

Hello Everyone,

Has anyone here purchased a bike from Canyon? If so, what is your experience with the bike?

Bought a Canyon Aeroad online 12 months ago. Had it shipped from Germany to New Zealand. No issues apart from sitting in Customs for 2 weeks. Love the bike. I get a lot of favourable comments about it.

One thing to note is if you have a UCI race licence you can apply for 10% discount. My race licence from my local cycling club doubles as a UCI race licence so I qualified for the discount.

I do all of my own servicing so buying from a local bike shop isn’t an issue for me. I did need to buy a small part during the time I’ve had the bike and it was sent within a week from Australian support centre. They were very helpful.

Probably the thing I had most trouble with was their online sizing calculator. It couldn’t cope with my short legs long torso build. I’m 180cm tall so ended up getting the 56cm frame which turned out to be the correct size.

Canyon makes great bikes that are a good value since they cut out the middle man — bike shops. However, since I really would like to support my local bike shops, that means I don’t plan to buy a Canyon bike any time soon.

I’m in the same boat, roughly the same size, long arms on a size 56 cm. However, I would say that this is one of the reasons why you should opt for a local shop where you can try different sizes for yourself and ask experienced staff to help you here.

I just got a 9.0 Ultimate Sram Axs build. Came down to this or the sworks axs tarmac. Demo’d the tarmac for a day and it’s an amazing bike, but if it’s any better than the Canyon, I can’t tell. I did pull the DT Swiss wheels off and put Roval CLX 50s on, but aside from that, the bike is great.

No regrets, customer service has been great, and the bike’s a ton of fun to ride.

Re: Sizing - they run large. I ride a medium in every other brand I’ve owned (5’9", fairly balanced proportions), but the Canyon is a size small and it fitsperfectly.

I recently bought a Canyon Speedmax and it’s brilliant. Unfortunately I’m on my second Speedmax as the first frame arrived with a chip, but their service for getting a replacement was great. The bike is brilliant and would highly recommend Canyon from personal experience.

I have been looking at a Aeroad for a few weeks… its just so hard to pass up being able to get 3k more worth of bike for like 1500$ less than a comp specialized etc… and I am a specialized fanboy! I am a little nervous about the fit etc though. But from what I have read if you call them and follow the fit guide they have its usually spot on and apparently they are very good with returns/exchanges

Bought a Speedmax CF 8.0 for my brother late last year as he was getting serious about triathlons. I can honestly it was perhaps the best value for money bike coming in at just around USD 3K including shipping (during the sale) with deep section wheels, full Ultegra and a bike that is ready to race within just minutes of assembly ( Ok it took an hour to get everything setup up perfectly)
