Bug Reports for the new Desktop App

Ah, yes. Then @andymarsh24 is in exactly the same situation as I am.

Thanks for the reply - obsolete as I suspected… It’s a shame the current windows app will stop working for me once this version is out of beta, but I guess I have an excuse for an upgrade now!

@Nate_Pearson @Pete - i tried to use the new Beta PC Windows version this morning - this included a restart to update the app, I was trying to do a FREE RIDE to play with resistance etc. I could search the workouts but there was no way to load the work out, all it did was bring up the preview screen with no LOAD WORKOUT option… some of the FREE RIDES had the option to do inside or outside but again no LOAD Option… also, I found the page fit required my to have to use scroll bars which are really thin and a royal pain when to trying to use whilst warming up on bike (never mind stationery) … I switched to the non Beta an loaded the ride no problem… so seems something missing off the BETA ??

Hi there! Free Rides shouldn’t be marked as outdoor rides and you shouldn’t be able to switch them between indoor/outdoor. When searching for a ride, when you click on it the workout details drawer slides open. At the bottom right there should be a red ā€œLoad Workoutā€ button.

I didn’t observe the behavior you described on either Mac or Windows. Below is a gif of what you should be seeing.

If this isn’t what you’re seeing let me know. If you could also provide some screenshots that would be helpful! Additionally, we have a forum thread for reporting bugs so if you confirm that you’re having problems then go ahead and report them here: Bug Reports for the new Desktop App

Thanks and I look forward to hearing from you!

The issue was there was no LOAD WORKOUT button…I removed and reinstalled and now seems to be there… annoying

Overall I had two little bugbears over the PC app.

  1. The minimal mode wasn’t very minimal. There’s a whole bar at the bottom and the top which barely have anything in them. These could easily be vanished. Some transparency would be nice also.

  2. The filters for the time durations - Which have now been improved, thank you!

I’ll pass these suggestions for minimal mode along to our design team - thank you for the feedback! :+1:

I thought the same thing as well.

We’ve got our design team looking into this.

I’m not looking at the app right now, but if you eliminate the title bar on the top of the minimal mode window then there still needs to be a way to easily move the window around with a mouse pointer. In my windows environment, the minimal mode shows up just above the start bar on the bottom of the screen. I drag the TR minimal window down a bit because I don’t care about seeing the start bar – in order to free up as much space as possible above the minimal window for my streaming entertainment… And agree with the comments about the transparency, that would be a very nice feature to have. Thanks!

I’ve been using the new Mac desktop app for a few rides now. Very happy with the interface. Love the ease of switching from ERG to Resistance mode and adjusting resistance with the arrow keys. A few points:

  • Tuesday and yesterday, the App hung during shutdown and had to be force closed. Didn’t happen this morning, so maybe the last update fixed this?

  • I start in ERG mode in a fairly high gear. The new App seems to take longer to bring me down to a reasonable warmup resistance. For the first 30 seconds or so, I’m pushing >200W, which is a cruel wake-up in the morning.

Thanks for letting us know about these issues you have been experiencing!

I am glad to hear that your app has ceased to hang when you close it out. :slightly_smiling_face: If you continue to see that activity, please report that here: Bug Reports for the new Desktop App, and we would be happy to look into it!

As for your experience in Erg Mode, try using a smaller gear. Something such as the small ring in front and a low to mid-range gear in the back should help your training mitigate power a bit better.

A preliminary report of an issue I encountered this morning on the Windows beta (I will have to look at my laptop tonight to report the specific version). Somehow I ended up with my Stages left-side powermeter added twice in Devices, perhaps both BT and Ant+. I did a previous session or two with it setup this way in the beta and experienced no problems. This morning I started a workout and the TR app was reporting no power. One of the instances of the device was showing no power and the other had a power reading. As best I can recall, the one device instance showing no power seemed grayed out, and I wasn’t able to pull it up or remove it, but I honestly didn’t spend much time looking at it because I needed to get my workout going quickly due to limited time. I closed & removed the workout that had started and then switched over to the non-beta instance of the software to complete my ride.

Thanks for letting us know about this!

The first thing I’d suggest with this is making sure your power meter is only pairing once to the app. That double pairing is going to cause some issues, so we’ll want to clear that up

Would you be able to tell us a little more about what you’re experiencing when you get a chance? Thanks!

Quick Update:

It looks to me like this is an issue with some dual sided power meters when paired over Bluetooth. When calibrated over Bluetooth, they return offset values like ā€œ0ā€ or ā€œ-1ā€. When calibrated over ANT+, they return ā€œrealisticā€ offset values.

While the reported offset value may not be correct for a dual sided power meter paired over Bluetooth, a successful calibration will still be accurate.

I’ve made a formal issue for this and it will get looked into further at some point, although I can’t say when. Until then, thanks for your patience!

Hi Geoff, on my Garmin 520 the right value has a ā€œ-ā€ sign prepended to the value:

And that is expected behavior:

Depending on the head unit used, they may be reported separately as left and right, or shown as two alternating values, with one showing negative (i.e. 890/-890). The zero value range is the same as with our existing meters and should fall within +/- 50 from a value of 890.

Source: How do I zero reset my Stages Power LR power meter? : Stages Cycling

From a technical point-of-view, my first wild guess is that the Stages dual-sided PM returns a pair of values for example (0,811) and (-1,877) and TR is parsing the first value and reporting success. But that is just a wild guess, I haven’t read the spec for this Bluetooth profile or hacked around on any software that does calibration.

Happy to try with ANT+ from MacBook to Stages LR if you haven’t already. Let me know!

Edit: @Geoff tried TR Desktop app with ANT+ and it only reports left offset. Garmin with ANT+ reports both left and right. Stages app with Bluetooth correctly reports left and right offsets. Something is clearly wrong with TR app, both ANT+ and Bluetooth.

Another day, another update. Both should be available now. :slightly_smiling_face:

Windows - 2019.23.3.36
Mac - 2019.23.3.34

Fixes:

  • Fixed an issue where the Windows application could not be resized from the top.
  • Fixed an issue where filters and search parameters were not resetting under certain conditions.
  • Fixed an issue where the ā€œView on Calendarā€ link was immediately disappearing after scheduling an activity.
  • Some ā€œunder the hoodā€ bug fixes.

OK, so version was 2019.16.0.89934-beta. I think this was pretty much just operator error, I’m sure as I think back to installing the beta that I set up devices pretty quickly and with minimal thought. I added both bluetooth and ant+ instances of my PM. It was fine until today when for whatever reason the BT instance wasn’t registering the power reading. Anyway, I was able to remove the BT instance tonight. I’m installing the newest version of the beta now and will be a little more careful on the device setup. Thanks.

edit - new version carried over devices fine, no additional setup required…

  • Platform: Mac
  • Version: 2019.23.2.34-Beta
  • Devices: Kickr 2017 (direct-drive), Stages LR gen3, TickrX HRM
  • Connection: Bluetooth
  • Mode: ERG with PowerMatch

Aerobic endurance ride.

  1. Stopped to give my rear end a break, and when I restarted hit the Erg spiral of doom. Looking at data:

14 seconds of pedaling and 0 cadence, and now I’m at FTP. Going further Erg punished me with 300+ watts until cadence caught up. Not sure why it took so long for cadence to start registering - it comes from Stages power meter.

  1. Stats font size looked better today, yesterday my eyes were tired from playing Wordscapes on the airplane.

  2. Moving divider between main stats and interval stats only appears to make main stats bigger and smaller. Was hoping that moving divider up would make intervals stats font bigger, but it only seems to make graph bigger (at least from 2 screenshots I took).
