The music quality is shocking though, in my opinion. It’s not really bone conduction, it is effectively two mini speakers close to your ears - zero bass and super tinny. I really wanted to like them but returned as they’re not what they want to be.
I ended up with some £20 MPOW ones off Amazon. Doing a good job so far with adequate volume, quality and battery life on the turbo and when running. All for less than a quarter of the price.
A little update for everyone who is still in / following this thread:
I’ve been using my $25 Mpow Flame bluetooth earbuds from Amazon for about 9 months now and they are hands down the best earbuds that I’ve ever owned. I have yet to destroy them with my sweat, even though I’ve put them through some of the sweatiest workouts I can imagine. The audio quality is decent enough to distract me during a tough interval session. The battery life will get me through about a week of a mid volume TR plan. And the best thing is, if the die because of my sweat, its just $25 to replace! Highly recommend!
Hi,
Looking for recommendations to buy headphones that have:
A nice sound;
Bluetooth;
And are built for use in sports like indoor TR bike sessions.
Is you can suggest some I will appreciate specially because I’ve got no idea about that 3rd item (sports use) and I don’t want to buy something in appropriate that gets easily ruined by moisture from sweating.
Thanks in advance.
These are one of the best purchases I have made in a long time. Quickly connects to Bluetooth and switches easily between devices (other headphones have annoyed the hell out of me on this), passive noise reduction and wireless.
Been using a pair of Bose Soundsport Frees for a few months now and love them. I still wear cans w/noise cancelling at the gym but on the trainer and on the bike the Bose are great, don’t have to crank the volume too high either. Highly recommended.
I’ve had great luck with the Plantronics Backbeat Fit bluetooth headphones for the last two years.
Added plus (and tip if you can’t hear over your fan while on the trainer) - the flat design of the band between buds allows me to wear some 3M hearing protection muffs comfortably over these headphones, so I don’t have to crank up the volume and struggle to hear my music. I thought it’d make a sweaty mess, but it’s not bad compared to deafening music + fan. Granted, I use a massive Patton shop fan on high to keep myself cool, so I have an exceptionally loud setup. I tried using my nice noise cancelling Sony WH-1000XM2, but I didn’t like sweating on those
Jabra has new wireless buds in that are smaller than the 65t and have a 7.5hr battery. I’ve held back on buying the truly wireless stuff because I need at least a 6hr battery to get all my rides comfortably.
They don’t have the Active model yet, but when they do, I’m finally going to upgrade my JBL Reflect BT Minis which have been serving me for 3-4years (and are still kicking).
Are you supposed to use tape to make sure they don’t fall out of your ear? Not really an issue while on the indoor trainer, but riding outdoor some technical single trails?
I haven’t ridden with them on technical single trail, but in all sorts of other situations where I have encountered bumps and stuff. They never fell out once. You just have to be careful when you remove your helmet, because one of the straps can easily catch the AirPods by their “antennae”. I also went running with them (although I don’t go out on runs very often), I have never had a problem with them. Another huge selling factor is the lack of complete sound insulation.
I have been using the Bose SoundSport Bluetooth Buds at work and on the trainer. These are great. Good sound and easy to connect and use. They do stick out a bit from your ears however I don’t really care about the visual aspect of them.
The other thing I would say is that if you are riding outdoors they could catch the wind because of there profile and give you some wind noise.
I did notice that there are some old threads on bluetooth earphones/headphones although I wanted to add a new one as those threads are >1 year ago and i’m sure the Tech has changed.
I currently use Bose SoundSport II and I’m now on my third pair as they are frustratingly temperamental - although being rated 5* on amazon and widely considered ‘the best’… I charge them overnight and I turn them on and they only have 30% charge - amazon have offered to replace them for the second time but I would rather get a more reliable pair rather than just go through this all over again and have them drop out 45min into a turbo session!
The problem with looking for alternatives online is that there are so many others also rated very highly! I would really like recommendations from the forum to be sure that I get a pair that can stand up to regular use and high levels of sweat whilst still be comfortable and providing decent sound quality!
I would like to stay with the smaller, ‘in ear’ style pls - my head overheats with anything larger!!
Thanks - recommendations most gratefully welcomed!
I just upgraded from my $25 amazon MPOW BT wired buds to the Jaybird Vistas.
For on the trainer the MPOW was fine, but for outdoor riding I really like the versatility of the vistas. The connection is rock solid and they do not fall out. Steep price jump, from $25 to $200 buds but IMO given how much I wear them worth it.
