Bike Cameras - choices?

Afternoon Folks

After years of near misses without acknowledgement or the occasional apology, yesterday I finally had the first driver who harassed us with his 2.5 tonne van for a few minutes before cutting me up so close I could have opened his fuel flap without having to stretch my arm.

I’ve been staying away from a bike mounted cam for to long (ironically I use one in my car though)

What do people tend to use for these applications? I have no desire or interest in making “content”, timelapses, super slo-mo etc, I just basically want to capture evidence of idiots being idiots.

My main issue seems to be battery life & capturing both front and rear at the same time.

My commutes.are only 15min each way but group rides can be anything upto 3 hour regularly with anything upto 9 hour a few times a year. Having to carry a spare battery is not an issue.

Ideally it would run like a dash cam overwriting old footage once storage runs out.

Initially I was set on the Osmo Action 5 Pro due to the 4 hour battery life but that is only going to give front views (or rear)

Then started looking at the Insta 360 X4 with the handlebar mount that sort of gives a rear view whilst also perfectly covering the front views. Means buying 3 handlebar mounts though and they are massive in how far it sticks out.

Insta360 GO Ultra then looked tempting as the necklace function saves on loads of mounts and looks discreet but the battery life obviously takes a hit.

Want to spend under £400 if possible

Thoughts?

Maybe this is more what you are looking for

Myself when I had a camera I just festered on stuff, I prefer avoiding stuff and my radar helps me there. But these camera folk come up often on my Farceboke page.

Quite a good review here:

Aye Cycliq stuff has came up a few times. A bundle of Fly12 and Fly 6 is mega money though :sob:

Excellent pricing even if they are only semi decent to be fair. Will look into those

I have one of the first Cycliq cameras. Works pretty well except the ability to resolve the red lettering on Illinois license plates. This was made back in I think 2016 so hopefully the tech has improved since then.

Yea they do look good

Think ive narrowed it down to three, being the DJI Osmo Nano which would be front mount on long rides & necklace/helmet mount on commutes or Cycliq Fly 12

Obviously both of those only give front view, although the Nano will double up as POV when commuting.

Insta 360 X4 is the third choice with handlebar mount looks excellent front view wise and also gives rear over shoulder viewing but the thing and its mount look massive which worries me. Looks like an CdA sensor

I have the Cycliq pro6 on the rear and recently got the 12 for the front. Both great cameras the battery on the back last about 6hours or so with the light on and takes really good footage. The front camera works fine too but only used it on a couple of rides and not used the footage for anything

I recently started using the fly12. the picture quality is excellent and the battery life is sufficient for what you are doing I think. I have captured several close passes and could easily make out the license plates. Obviously I wasn’t crashing at the time, so mileage may vary. My problem is I don’t really know what to do with footage of a close pass. I tried calling the non-emergency police once when I got buzzed twice in a 4 minute video, but they never called me back.
