I just set up my account. I’m shooting for a century ride in 2 months in March. I’ve been cycling off an on, but have been much more consistent these past few months. Question, I placed the goal as a Grand Fondo and approx 7 hrs for the century ride. Not sure if that was the best choice. My training consists of only 1 hr intervals 3x per week. I was assuming it would give me endurance rides? I checked the entire program and I have no rides over 1.25 hours. Does this seem right? TIA!
If I was you I’d schedule your onboarding call with TR.
Essentially the system will give you more volume if you want it - but you need to tell it how much time you have.
Currently it makes a recommendation now based on your current capabilities but then only increases the volume if you use the “check volume” feature.
This is being improved on the next release of the software that is in the late stages of beta testing now though ![]()
This is pretty standard for TR. It can work. My suggestion is you take your long ride (usually Sunday) and start increasing the time . You need to dial in eating and drinking for 100 miles. It will also let you discover any physical problems that could arise.
As others have said, these long rides need to be self managed to a large extent.
The onboarding and time management or manual long rides on weekends will help significantly.
The only thing I would add is that dont worry about not doing 7 hours on the trainer. You dont strictly need to do 7 hours in a single session of training to be ready to do a one off 7 hours on the road.
Infact, I would argue that if you can manage 3.5-4 hours on the indoor trainer, 7 hours outdoors will be perfectly doable.
Given the time frame, if it were me and wx permitted, I just ride increasingly long distances outside, working up to 60+ miles. A couple of 20-40 miles during the week (or maybe trainer rides) and longer on the weekend. If i can do 60, I can do 100. Personally, I’ve done many centuries but never made it past 2.5 hrs on a trainer.
Welcome to the forum and TR! ![]()
Where are you keeping your cycling data for your past rides? They haven’t been synced to your TR calendar, so we are essentially assuming that you’re starting from zero.
If you sync that data to TR, we’ll have a better idea of where your fitness is actually at and we’ll likely prescribe a different training plan that could have an endurance ride included (that comes with plans of 4+ days a week).
Another option would be to switch your plan to only have 2 hard workouts a week with one easier ride that you could use as your potential for a longer ride down the road. We typically recommend three harder workouts, though if you can only handle three rides a week.
Regardless, if you sync all of your historical data over, we can re-run your plan and see if there’s a change.
Let me know if this helps and if you need a hand with anything! ![]()
Thank you for the Reply Eddie. It is synced through Garmin and Strava. I do see them on my Calendar. From my cycling to my Runs/Walks ![]()
This is exactly what I ended up doing. I swapped my 3rd Day (Sunday), for a 3-4 hr ride vs the recommended 1.25 hr interval ride.
Ahh. I see them now. They don’t have any TSS currently.
I’d recommend applying HR-based TSS to those past activities. You can log in online, click on “Account” then “Settings” and “TSS Estimation” to get to this page.
Once you enter your max cycling HR, you can select “All past and future rides” which should give us a lot more data to use when creating a plan for you.
