I’m a bit confused. My first custom training plan was last fall. In the onboarding call I was told that Masters plans were two weeks of intensity, one week of recovery. I created my new custom plan (balanced) and it’s 3 weeks of intensity, one week of recovery. Actually no matter how I structured the plan (mtb/road, general fitness/FTP) the plan was the same every time. Confused.
I believe it’s 2 hard workouts a week vs 3 hard workouts a week in non masters. Both have the 3:1 cycle. It may have been the 2 vs 3 hard workouts a week that you are recalling not the hard weeks vs easy weeks ratio.
Who did you speak to?
That recovery week schedule is for tri plans only.
Here is more info on Masters Plans, but @LacticacidMCB is correct
It’s a 3:1 ratio with added recovery, so one of your interval days is swapped to be an Endurance.
And for tri plans, as @JoeX mentioned, we have a 2:1 ratio: What are Masters Triathlon Plans?
But the tri plans don’t swap out one of the weekly harder workouts , right? i’ve got a tri plan set up and see the 2 week/1 week recovery but there are still 3 interval/hard workouts in the week.
It was with Evan Clements
Okay… But I doubled checked and the plan Evan set up for me was 2 weeks on, 1 week recovery. Has it changed with the new AI roll-out? (Thanks for the link, I’ll check that out.)
I ididn’t hear back from you. So I think I’m just going to turn my plan off for now. I don’t think I’m handling so much sweet spot and Threshold well. I changed my plan goal to general fitness instead of FTP and it re-started the whole thing despite being 3 weeks in. Didn’t know it would do that. ![]()
Hey there. Caro was on vacation the last few days, so sorry for lack of response.
We did not change anything about the structure of masters plans with the introduction of TR AI. Masters cycling plans continue to use a 3 week load/ 1 week recovery structure, just like our non-masters cycling plans. Masters cycling plans include 2 days of intensity per week, while the non-masters versions contain 3.
Masters Triathlon plans work differently. These do use a 2 week load/ 1 week recovery structure. Unlike how masters cycling plans work, masters Tri plans do not alter the composition of the workouts within each week.
Depending on the length of your plan, it may not be cleanly divisible by 4 week blocks. In this case you’ll see a shorter cycle at some point within the plan (this isn’t unique to masters plans). I’m not familiar with the plan Evan built for you, but it’s possible it may have started with a 3 week cycle for this reason. Perhaps this is why it appeared to be a 2/1 load:deload structure.
When did you select Masters Plan? Was it after your plan started or at the outset? I ran into an issue where I switched to MP at the end of a build block and it gave me 2 more weeks of build with no recovery week. I corresponded with TR team, and that’s not a bug evidently. I did offer feedback of maybe a tweak to that algorithm.
To be honest Kevin, I don’t recall selecting masters. I think you can toggle it off but I assumed because of my age, it would be automatic. I thought that you could change goals, etc. without it blowing away the plan you’re in the midst of. Not so.
Thanks for that heads up on that. My plan will start on March 30th. i chose Masters from the start when i built it, however, there are 4 tempo/SS workouts per week for the first 2 weeks, then a recovery week, then 3 tempo/SS workouts during the week with endurance ride on the weekend - I find this questionable as regular cycling only Masters plans only give you 2 hard workouts per week (but 3 weeks/1 week work/rest ratio) and i certainly won’t be stepping back into training with 1 tempo and 3 SS workouts on week 1, as well as full swim/run schedule. I am actively looking at other options.
I think it will prompt you to select it, but it won’t automatically select for you.
