I am not unhappy with Flattop chains but options are always good.
KMC say their X12 is not compatible with flat-top chain drivetrains, which have slightly bigger rollers than other chains. I think I read somewhere that they will soon have a flat top compatible chain.
KMC claims compatibility with all major 12 speed drivetrains so wondered if anyone was using it and their feedback.
I use one a waxed one for racing and I can’t determine any difference. It is short term use so unaware of the wear.
There is supposed to be a new KMC Flattop chain coming very soon.
Here’s a cut and paste from KMC’s X12 webpage:
“Compatibility: SRAM Eagle, SRAM Eagle AXS, Shimano, and Campagnolo
Bicycle Type: MTB, Road, Gravel, Cyclocross
*Not Compatible with SRAM eTAP and Flattop”
I have a KMC x12 chain on my TT bike running SRAM Red Etap 1x. It works excellently.
I have numerous x12 chains on my sram and shimano 12spd drivetrains.
Although, I’m unsure if they will work on a t-type setup.
Just use the Gx Chain if you are worried about friction, faster according to ceramicspeed
Why are you unhappy with the flattop chains?
They’re not gold
they test a couple watts slower. also more expensive. dura ace/xtr chains are elite but shimano cassettes arent one peice and their derrailleurs are super ugly.
KMC have the X Flat chain for the SRAM 12sp/13sp systems. For some reason there is not much information available of the chain.
I didn’t know that KMC had released a flat top compatible chain. Thanks. I’ve ordered myself one from Merlin UK in gold. Though the green looks
