What are my options when i run 2x12 GRX Di2 and i want to run 165 cranks? Only shimano option seems to run rx600 crankset, but that heavy AF!
I have RED dub wide cranks with Quarq powermeter on the shelf with force 46/33 chainrings, can i somehow use that crankset? Maybe running shimano cassette+RD and FD with Red dub cranks and sram chainrings? If so what chain would i have to use, sram or shimano?
What you are proposing may not work. It’s been reported that the Flattop chain you would need to run the Force chainrings will skip on a non SRAM cassette and that 12 speed spacing between brands is different with SRAM being slightly greater. Many times it will be said that mixing components does not work but trial and error many times will prove differently. If you do decide to give it a go, best of luck.
Flat top chains have larger diameter rollers than the newer Shimano chains
I’ve got a mixed 12 speed bike, some KMC chains are advertised as working on both SRAM / Shimano.
I suppose there is no option to buy 2x shimano compatible chainrings that fit sram red crank also?
Get a Quarq Dfour power meter that allows you to use your Red crank arms and Shimano Chainrings.
Does GRX 12 chainrings fit that? I found some info that they dont, chainline is going to be out ?
Yeah, I think you’d need road chainrings and road front derailleur because the GRX rings have a different BCD and chainline.
@Raikzz I’d try reaching out to the folks at www.powermetercity.com They’ve been super helpful in the past and I bet they get alot of questions like this.
Have you looked at Rotor? They offer a GRX chain line axle and cranks down to 155mm. If you go for a 30mm axle, you can fit the Carbon Aldhu arms. I don’t know what the total weight is vs SRAM red dub but it is presumably competitive.
Rotor is probably the easisest and sadly the most expensive option.
I guess if i run red dub wide crank + quarq dfour + shimano road 50/34 then everything should work fine?
I’ll admit to not thinking too hard or knowing much about the latest SRAM cranks but have you ruled out Shimano at the back and SRAM at the front, with a KMC running happily over both?
Assume a flat top chain is not mandatory on your chain set?!
This is easily done. Get a 110 BCD spider with a SRAM 8 bolt interface, and find some Shimano compatible chainrings that fit it. Should be a few brands that offer 5x110 rings.
Well if it is working and GRX FD can cope with it then why not?
EDIT: Looks like KMC doesnt work well with “flattop” chainrings after all, although they say they it does…
Quarq Dfour with 4x110 should give the same results? And installing shimano 50/34 chainrings? Only question is if GRX FD is gonna cope with that, because GRX chainrings have different chainline ?
Yes, I have seen the Quarq used for shimano drivetrains. Not sure if you will have a problem properly aligning the GRX FD. You can always just swap it for Ultegra.
