Anyone out there with a Computrainer?

I have two CTs. One as a spare, still BNB, never opened. After 14 years of use, I finally ditched it and went and bought myself a Smart Trainer. I highly recommend it. Just the footprint alone, the clean install (no wires), no burning of tyres, and the simple calibration / zero-offset makes a smart trainer a better choice.

Soaring Bear,

I found another work around. First I confirmed my ANT+ stick is working by seeing the HR on Trainer Road and Perf Pro. That leaves RM as the culprit.

I connected a Polar HR receiver to the Computrainer control head, and used my old Polar HR strap, and wa-la…HR appears in the RM data windows.

Way better than the old ear clip, and the Polar receiver plugs in where the old ear clip did.

I don’t think I’ll ever get ANT+ to work with RM now that I’m on W-10…my guess is the DLLs no workie, but the Polar gadget is a good solution.

Cheers!

Mike

Hi Mike, glad to hear it. Glad that worked out.

Mike, yesterday I calibrated the CompuTrainer and forgot to save the calibration. Result was, Why do I feel like this ride was a lot harder than it should be? 30 watts off

I used CT for years on TR, Zwift and ErgVideo. If you are having difficulty getting it to work check a couple of things.

First, the version of your handlebar controller. CTs manufactured prior to mid 2007 may have problems due to the chipset version. There is no cure save finding a replacement EPROM. I THINK the version is 25.41. Note the vesion numbers bounced around a bit toward the end so beware. If your HB unit has a serial # above say 30,000 or so should be fine. Mine was 29,000+/- and worked on TR and Zwift.

USB cable is critical. Look for and FTDI chipset for USB cable. DO NOT use Prolific chipset cables. They are extremely unreliable.

I used CT from 2007 until 2019. They are extremely robust units. I still have mine in the attic in case my Kickr ever fails.

One last thing. DO NOT use a CT with a blue flywheel. THere was a recall on them as they could disintegrate without warning due to manufacturing defect. The shards became shrapnel which is not good when so near certain body parts.
