You can start a workout mid-ride from the Control Center (the swipe down menu). You should see an โAdd Workoutโ button in the menu, which will allow you to initiate a workout during an already in-progress activity. You can also do the same to remove the in-progress workout mid-ride; in this case the the button will have an โXโ to click to remove it.
A couple questionsโฆ
So I sent a few workouts that I had favourited to the Hammerhead Dashboard, and they showed up there and also on the computer. When I went back a couple of days later they were not on the Dashboard, and also dissapeared when I opened the computer and looked at workouts there. So I guess that means you have to push workouts to a certain day, and then actually do them then? Iโd love a function where I could have a handful of go-to-workouts saved on the Karoo that I could load on any outdoor ride when I felt like doing structure.
I havenโt been on a plan on TR for years, and only now use TrainNow when I ride indoor. If I am to do workouts outdoor, it makes more sense to me to have a few go-to-ones to keep it simple.
Also, am I right in thinking that itโs not possible to push custom workouts to do outdoors? I donโt get the outdoor icon when looking at any of my custom workouts.
Youโre correct about custom workouts. Currently only non-custom TrainerRoad workouts have the option to be completed outside, with a very few exceptions (such as the ramp test) which we donโt recommend doing outdoors.
Scheduled workouts set to โOutsideโ are pulled by the Hammerhead device within 3 days of their planned date. For individual workouts that are synced to the device but not added to your calendar (like a TrainNow workout, for example) we send the workout over immediately. I donโt believe thereโs currently a way to save the workout indefinitely on the Karoo, but a good alternative would be to favorite a small group of workouts on TrainerRoad, and simply pull the one(s) you might like to complete on the day of your ride.
Is the Karoo1 supported or only 2?
Great question. TrainerRoad workouts do work on the original Karoo, with two minor caveats. The process of connecting your account and syncing workouts to your device is exactly the same as described above.
However, you wonโt see the TR logo next to the workout in the workouts list on your device. The device also wonโt auto-upload the completed workout directly to TrainerRoad. It will upload the completed workout to your Hammerhead dashboard in accordance with your settings, but youโll need to manually trigger the activity to then export directly to TrainerRoad from the dashboard. I suspect this wonโt be a problem in most cases, though, as most athletes with Hammerhead devices also have Strava connectedโand even without a direct upload to TR from your device, I think weโd still receive the activity through Strava.
Would it be possible to make the 3 day window include previous days? e.g. if I have a workout planned for Monday but life gets in the way and I canโt get out until Tuesday, I need to go into Trainerroad calendar, reschedule the workout, then sync the workouts, before I can go for a ride.

This is an interesting idea. I could imagine it could get a bit complicated for athletes with multiple workouts scheduled on subsequent days, but Iโll make sure weโre looking at it as a possible future improvement.
