But, when that happens, and the person wants to keep working on longer intervals, would manually adjusting that first workout to one more in line with what they want send the desired message to AI, assuming they perform well on it, and then wouldn’t AI go forward from there?
Also not impressed with new AI format. Have used TR since 2017. It has been the best option out there for personalized training without a formal coach. However as I prepare for a busy season of summer racing, TR has my FTP going down yet again despite completing all the prescribe workouts. 4% decrease for the next cycle?? Not providing the positive reinforcement I had become used to!
This is the “I like it thread” but since we are here….
You haven’t dropped 4%, it’s just the way “the machine” is calibrating your workouts. Mine dropped too initially but I chose to ignore it. It picks appropriate workouts and I feel myself getting stronger. I know it’s hard but try not to focus on the number but instead the work. Remember “the best predictor of performance is performance itself.”
I might just be misunderstanding, but looking at your calendar, you’re definitely not following the plan and you’re doing all kinds of stuff outside the plan. This might be what you did before and it worked well, and maybe it still is, but I think it’s unfair to attribute the good or the bad to the plan when you’re not following it.
Ensuring that you’re on a plan with sustained power workouts is a good place to start.
From there, I’d say you could adjust your training approach in sustained power zones such as Endurance, Sweet Spot, and maybe Threshold, depending on a few things.
Where are you wanting to push out your time in zone? I’d say that endurance and sweet spot are a good place to do this, with SS intervals going to 20 or 30 minutes, but I don’t think going too much longer than that is more beneficial, unless you only have time for really short workouts.
The same goes for threshold work. Spending tons of time at 100% of your threshold is really fatiguing, and there are likely better ways to train.. More intervals that are slightly shorter are a good route here. Training =/= racing, so they should be approached differently.
I’m happy too. I mainly use TrainerRoad in winter. In recent years, TR workouts were often so tough that I regularly lost motivation. Now with AI, I really feel like it’s a perfect fit. Yes, my FTP is significantly lower, and yes, it’s not great for my ego at first. But I can follow the plan perfectly. The only thing that isn’t working quite right yet is the FTP prediction. It’s very high shortly after an AI FTP calculation and then decreases again each day. That’s not ideal from a motivational standpoint.
So far - the new model is serving up the right workouts - not too easy, not too hard.
For me, that’s the bottom line.
I’m getting good workouts. Just trust the TR process, it hasn’t failed me before.
They did call it something different to FTP.
Fair enough, you are correct. They called it AI FTP. I am just assuming people are fixating on the FTP part of that name and upset when the number doesn’t match their FTP from some other approach to measuring.
Agree with this. The loudest voices are usually negative and create the illusion of “everyone”.
In general people with great experiences are not nearly as vocal but continue to use the product/service regularly as satisfied customers.
The recent AI improvements to TR have been great for me personally so far. I’ve been using their platform for almost 10yrs now and they continue to improve with time. Excited to use it this season.
Every second AI recommended workout also says I shouldn’t do the workout because it’s too hard. Then why are you recommending the workout?
Assuming your user name is the same as your forum name, you don’t appear to be on a plan and none of your workouts show they were selected by the AI. Is that true? If so, can you clarify?
You’re in the wrong thread.
At the age of 72, I’m thankful TR doesn’t just tell me to give up biking and take up golf!![]()
Just want to make sure and post a Positive comment. I’m happy with the change. I turned down the “masters” option (I’m 50) I upped the volume (demanding) and for the first time in 3 seasons I feel like the workouts are really pushing me. Before I felt I was just going through the motions, gains were little to none.
I’m sure my 50s and I’m not sure my shoulders would be happy about golf
Three of the last 5 posts are trolls or bots. They just signed up for the forum hours ago. Ugh
And another one is a user with bad data who keeps blaming TR for it
