Aero Leg Warmers

My situation was just on the Marginal Gains podcast. I have an artificial leg and am doing Leadville. I asked about how to make the leg, specifically how it attaches to my body, with joints, velcro etc, more aero. Josh from Silca suggested an aero leg warmer to cover all the ‘bad’ parts. I know Rule 28 has one.

For various physiological reasons the ‘calf’ on my artificial leg is wide, 18 inches in circumference, so I need a warmer that has some ‘give’. Does anyone here know of any other than R28 that I should check out?

I just listened to that episode the other night…good luck at Leadville!!

While I can’t point to any data specific to legs, it is pretty well established that cloth is faster than skin (unless your name is Remco), so it would stand to reason that almost any leg warmer is going to provide some degree of aerodynamic advantage over the just the smooth surface of the artificial leg.

AFAIK, the only aero-specific ones are from Rule 28, as you noted. @Rule28 posts here, so perhaps they may be able to provide some specific advice for you and your situation.

Nopinz makes aero calf guards that could work.

Thank you! I think I need something that goes up over the knee specifically to deal with the airflow going over the joints of my leg.

Happy to help with this and any other questions people may have for aero tips. Doesn’t have to be kit related :+1:

I believe VeloToze has some items that might work too.

Thanks @Rule28. I spoke with the chat on your website, based on the circumference of my calf, do you agree I’d need at least a XL? Does it have enough ‘give’ on the fabric?

XL for sure. This may still end up being too tight but it’s the biggest we offer.
