TR keeps suggesting I drop my threshold workouts significantly despite being able to complete them (often above the suggested power). The last couple of weeks it’s suggesting PL’s in the mid to low 4’s from high 5’s. I keep overriding them but I’m not sure whether that’s wise. Has anyone else had similar issues and what did you do about it?
For reference.
Mar 13 5.6 Hard
Mar 21 5.7 Hard
Mar 27 5.9 Very Hard (Indoor) FTP Bump 2%
Apr 3 5.6 Very Hard
Recovery week
Apr 18 5.8 Hard
Apr 24 6.0 Very Hard.
I can understand why they suggested I drop next weeks PL as I had to take extra recovery between intervals today due to running out of road. But to still do 3 x 22 min above the prescribed power I’m surprised they’re suggesting I drop from 6.0 (this week) to 4.0 for next week.
Please see below similar thread i started few days back.
The PL drops may not be as high as in your case but nevertheless TR keeps continuesly dropping PLs for my upcoming plan adaptations regardless of me sticking to the already adjusted sessions.
I‘ve decided, same as in the past, to accept any adaptations suggested and simply carry on, but i‘m still surprised to this out of sudden big number of plan adaptations beginning from this week. For the last few months since I joined TR I can’t remember seeing same situation.
I think you have to look at the bigger picture of your plan. There is a slight rebalancing going on, putting more emphasis on VO2max and less on threshold. TR might think you have filled your intensity quota and an more achievable threshold would be more appropriate.
The first pic shows an adaptation that increase PL on your VO2max workout and lower it for the threshold one.
But as you point out, your VO2 PL are higher still. There is probably some underlying data that indicates a slight overreacting on intensity. Only TR knows. You will have to ask tech support on that one.
Currently in last week of VO2max block. When started, TR suggested VO2max workouts with PL ~7. Now that I am actually doing workouts with PL > 9 (a la 4x8 at 112%), it suggests workouts with level around 6.
