Adaptive Training Closed Beta Update

Thanks Chad and wish I could add that and maybe for now will just add it and not get any adaptations. I like sweet spot stuff but I usually get enough sweet spot / vo2 outside while on my group rides. Of course this has a lot of variables but the IF and TSS works itself out for me.

I signed up back when they first announced AT and I’m still waiting to get in.

In the meantime I’ve been quite happily plugging away with the current offering. Warts and all.
I’m looking forward to the AT feature roll-out when it gets here.

By the way - I tried to disable AT (Wahoo outdoor…) but I am still getting adaptations. Is there a way to properly disable it? Thx

Have you unchecked the wee switch thing on web (or app) in the settings? If so, then I’d try log out and log in on the other locations you use as a way of trying to sync them all (guessing).

Yes, I disabled it via the switch on the web page, but I am still getting pending adaptations in the app after every ride (even after logout/login).

I would gladly give my beta access to someone else if I could… for my setup it’s just an annoyance right now.

I think your answer is inside your fine. For those doing stuff outside there is data missing. I have been in the beta for a while but just found too many items need to be adjusted. Decay doesnt make sense. It is a beta and really doesnt yet appear to be near ready to be released. It is a great idea but there is still work to do on it. I have no faith in it at the moment and would prefer to do my own thing as I was doing. I will revisit it in the fall.

Does the adaptiveness only apply to plan builder plans? My regular TR plan isn’t being updated…

Yes, you need to use Plan Builder.

yes as the other poster said which is unfortunate at this time as I would rather do Traditional Base (yes I am in the minority).

Minority or not, if TR offers a given plan, I think it’s practical and fair to expect it to be available via Plan Builder and use with AT.

Honestly, it’s pretty strange that you can hack to add the Polarized plans since they are officially “experimental” while the Traditional Base plans have been a part of TR for ages. I see no reason TR shouldn’t at least allow for use of all their plans in these tools, and hope they fill in those blanks for anyone interested in them.

IMHO the hack is possible because

  • Polarized plans are 6 and 8 weeks
  • SSB and build/specialty plans are 6 and 8 weeks

Traditional base is 4 weeks, and therefore (IMHO) you can’t swap it for a 6 week plan. I’m fairly certain its as simple as that.

Yeah, I could see that being the core issue. Either way, I think TR needs to address it to fully embrace the TB for use in line with any other plan.

yes for sure. Looking at the 8 week HV polarized I am going to swap that one out and see what happens. These are the types of workouts I typically like to do on the trainer and then my outdoor group rides are not sweet spot / vo2.

Edit: just made the switch via the hack and we will se what happens. made me do 6 week then then 8 week polarized HV. Some of them will be outside depending on how hot it stays here in Atlanta.

There are a lot of things I’d like to see TR embrace, and hearing SSB described as the plan for 99% of cyclists makes me believe that Traditional Base will get no love.

Another question about adding a plan and AT: again, apologies if this has been covered in the 5000 posts between the two main threads!

I understand that you need to use plan builder in order for AT to work, however I cant get it to choose the phases I want to train with. For instance, I usually do the Offroad Enduro plan: SSB, SPB, Gravity. But I fancied doing something like SSB, GPB, XCO, but I cant get it to configure that.

Is there a way to sub it all in as I like which doesnt stop AT working?

Thanks in advance.

If you click the start of the phase you want to change in the calendar you can adjust it via this popup:

While I can’t guarantee that it won’t stop AT from working, I can say that it has worked for me and AT is still working (beautifully!)

Yup, this swap method works well.

Brilliant, thank you!

Me too. Have given up waiting for the email now - hopefully they’ll squash the outstanding but Nate mentioned soon, then open it up as public beta.

I won’t be holding my breath. Better to keep training and forget about AT for now in my case.
I’m yet to meet an app that can accurately predict my FTP and schedule a whole programme based on that.
Good luck AT.

I’m finding the new SusPB plan very manageable. It would be nice if I didn’t have to gradually nudge the VO2 WO’S up by 10% and stop pedalling a minute or so before the proper end of my ramp tests in order to get an appropriate training block.
