Adaptations - always achiveable - never productive

Why does TR always give me achiveable workouts?
I just did a active recovery session, it was 30min but i only had time for 20min, picked “easy” for it and it adapted my next sweetspot workout from 2-something to 1.8, my level is 3.6.

It changed my saturday threshold also from 2-something to 1.0 even though my level is 2.2 and I did a 2.2 saturday before.

I think my profile is open if anyone wants to take a look.
Also i get yellow and red days everytime i say “hard” after a workout but a threshold workout is hard, and it should be?

The first thing I’d try if you feel that we’re being too conservative with your training is adjusting your training approach.

Yours is currently set to “Balanced,” but I’d give “Demanding” a try to see if that gets you to what you’re looking for.

You can find the training approach slider under “Account” > “Settings” > “Adaptive Training”

Let me know if this helps!

I will try that.
I would understand why i would get easier workouts then my progression level if i didnt complete the ones i got or picked “all out” on a workout that the AI would think i would manage fine.

I will try adjust that.

Let me know how it goes!

Keep in mind that constantly taking on workouts with levels higher than before isn’t always the best move, and isn’t the most sustainable way to train.

It’s not practical to take on a workout that’s harder than the last one week after week. There are many factors that go into which workout is the most productive and optimal for you at any given time, and nobody is on a continuously infinite upward trajectory.

Give your workouts a shot once you update your training approach and let me know how things are working for you. :+1:

Makes sense actually.
I wont manually change everything going forward but i will try increase training approach, was thinking about doing that anyway since i have vacation coming up and less daily stress

I have similar feeling that TR suggestions have been overly conservative recently, month or more. I am not using Plan Builder, but following own plan, from time to time taking look at TrainNow suggestions to check if I am not jumping too far ahead.

For example:

  • current Sweetspot PL is 6.2. It is declining because I haven’t completed official workout for some time.
  • couple days ago completed custom SS90/2x30 workout that should be at least PL 7.0 (compared to almost identical workout in TR workouts catalogue; and yes, I do know TR does not take it into account for PL increases)
  • Training Approach is set to Aggressive
  • haven’t had any red days for 2 months
  • and yet, TrainNow recommends for today Kaputyat (PL 5.2)

This specific example goes for Sweetspot, but I have similar experience with Z4 as well.

I should add also that im in base phase right now, maybe the AI is not pushing one that much during this phase? Or I could be wrong.

I don’t know for sure but this is unlikely factor – Plan Builder adaptations and TrainNow suggestions have same backend, and for TrainNow, there are no phases, it’s recommendations are based on recent load type, freshness and things like that.

I expect if you have difficulty set at mid range that may give smaller increases.

Just to clarify, i was talking about my issue, and not Svens
I was thinking that maybe i dont get any productive workouts because im in base phase, but i dunno, seems wierd, if you never get productive work how are you going to get stronger

well well, trust the process
