45mm will leave similar clearance between shoe and pod and what you need between pod and crank arm. 48-49mm is rough actual. Working with 45 as the max should be safe and be cognizant of foot rotation when clipping out. .

I have the Garmin Rally pedals with both Keo (road) and SPD (MTB) pedal bodies. NICE solution. Expensive, but works great. I don’t imagine 3D-printed cleats would be strong enough - but maybe.

That’s great news as the centre of my cleats are actually at 43mm from the widest part of the upper of the shoe and 35mm from the sole so looks like I’ll not have to carve anything off! Thanks for taking the time to measure that. Cheers

The added width to the spindle makes it a lot easier to use wider shoes : )

Please note that the recent discussion here is regarding the Shimano Duo spindles, not the original ones. Don’t want folks trying to put Shimano pedal bodies on the original Favero pedals

You’ll need a Shimano TL-PD40 It’s the gray tool that fits the notched axle of the 520.
