A Time Trialing Thread

probably find something better and cheaper on facebook marketplace and groups, or ebay - especially if rim brake.

i have a prime 343, it’s the only disc wheel i’ve owned/used but my comments on it would be…

+ives
if in stock, you’ll do well to find cheaper
ran straight and true our of the box
easy to set up tubeless
the screw on valve cover is a lot neater than using stickers

-ives
no noticible womp
maybe slightly heavier than alternatives, doesn’t really matter though
i did manage to pull the freehub off when changing casette on one occasion. pushed it back in and never caused a problem but did give me a scare.

:scream:

Hello all,

Iam looking for new tires (TLR) for my wheelset (front wheel of which I also use in my TT bike).
I use the wheelset also in my racebike with good weather.

So i need tires (Tubeless) with a low rolling resistance and puncture resistance. I now a low RR always ensures less puncture resistance and vice versa. What do you think about the GP5000s TR? Do you think thats a good compromis for my use?

Yes

Why not the S TR? More supple, better availability, as fast, easier to install (especially tubeless), lighter.

I think i mean the same.

Continental GP 5000s TR.

Sorry, read it as 5000TL.

5000s TR are great, although you can still get a little faster tires for solely racing like Vittoria Speed and Conti TT.

Yeah i saw the TT versions, but thats not a tire for trainingrides on the TT and rides on the racebike. I will ride around the 10 TT races in a year, so i like to use the frontwheel also in the summer in my racebike.

My road bike wheels (Prime and Hunt) have got 5000TR and I found them easy to fit, although I never had a problem with the TL’s either. I also have a 5000TL on my rear disk and I am marginally slower than when it was a Pro One but that is probably more down to me and luck than the tyre; I changed to Latex Tubes on the front (which is supposed to be faster) but my faster times were with a heavier butyl tube.

My Ron Aeron X wheel already arrived early December after I made use of their big BF discount. The trispoke arrived end of last week. Love how it looks!

Edit: I know I won’t be breaking any records without the chain and cassette but I quickly took it off of the Wahoo Kickr to fit the wheels to see how it looked.

You could go down the Light Bicycle route. UFO-C21: Carbon Clincher Rim-Brake Disc (lightbicycle.com) middle ground between cheapest available option and buying a named brand. I think posted you would be looking Ā£700-Ā£750 range as there’s usually a discount around if you buy a few items with some other people.

Not on that table are the newer Michelin offering, think they are similar in terms of Crr/aero to the 5000S TR but potentially more puncture resistance. I am tempted to run them for training races (but use Corsa Speeds for A events).

I would love to like them but:

  • not hookless compatible (which is really weird for a 2022 release)
  • super narrow tread
  • really wide for the rating (28mm wide for the 25c tire on a 20c rim).
  • full slick, which is likely less aero than Conti

I have buyed a set of Conti GP5000s TR.

What I’m still worried about is that when the latex closes a hole you always lose some bar. If you then fly into a corner during a time trial, it can sometimes be annoying with a tire that is too low…

Keep an eye on that before races. Your tires shouldn’t lose any significant pressure during a ride, or the hole hasn’t sealed properly.
I would at least switch tires that do that before a race.

I’ve never had that problem, if there has been a hole its sealed without me noticing.
