2026 XC Bike & Equipment Thread

Piggybacking on threads of years past…:

So - what are you running this year? Any plans to change bikes or modify the existing?

I picked up a leftover S-works Epic 8 last fall for a bargain. We relocated from Houston to Washington and the MTB riding had been Epic, even in the rainy season. Looking forward to the longer days and drier weather.

It’s mostly stock for good reason. I was torn between M & L, but the Large just felt to big and I like sitting on the bike more than “in”. So - I picked up the Medium and added some carbon Atmos handlebars and a longer stem. Allows me to run aero bars if I want to get into any off road ultra distances.

Other than that adjusting for fit (added 165 cranks as well) I’m not sure there’s much else to upgrade as it came so dialed from the factory. If anyone has suggestions to justify making it better, definitely all ears.

I’ll probably be continuing to run my Scott Spark RC WC AXS from 2021. Might change it up to a Lapierre XRM SE but that all depends if I get my Spech Enduro Comp sold. But then again I need a gravel bike because my Scott Addict RC CX is not holding up to wider tires needed…

Still loving my 22 epic evo so just gonna catch up on all of the deferred maintenance and should be all set. Looking forward to this thread tho!

Same. Epic Evo “7” is the perfect bike for the trails out my door & that I ride most of the time. Upgraded to flight attendant when it was on sale over the holidays. Turned off the auto lock (so cycles between open & pedal) and is so smooth & efficient. Would need to be a pretty special bike to warrant a change.

Same same, also ripping the Epic Evo 7. The epic 8 looks sick but is just too similar for me to make the upgrade. Will likely wait until the next gen unless I see something else I like. Cant wait for summer!

Decided to treat myself after a long winter indoors with Flight Attendant. Got it installed yesterday and did a lower leg service at the same time.

  • Epic 8 Evo Frame
  • SID 35/Sidluxe FA
  • Nextie Omega Rims/I9 1/1 Hubs (~1200g)
  • Bontrager Kovee Pro 35 -13° stem/Raceface Next R carbon bars
  • X0 Transmission
  • Hayes T2 Brakes/Galfer Wave rotors
  • Wolftooth Resolve Dropper 160mm
  • WTB Gravelier Carbon saddle
  • Still need to swap my pedals to Xpedo CXR pros, grips to ODI F-1 Vapors and the tires over to Racing Ray/Ralph for race season

Should be roughly 24.5 lbs ready to ride on race day based on its current weight.

I’ve never been much of a mountain biker, but my 2013 Fuji Tahoe with 26s got a 1x crank, a dropper, new tires, and new grips.

Here she was last summer.

Edit: And I’ve got a shiny new USAC license so we’ll see if I’m as slow racing XC on this as I was racing cross on it

Frame Swap for me, moved a bunch over from my OIz. (Anyone want to buy a size large Oiz Frame - let me know!)

2024 S-Works Epic 8 Frame (Size Large)

Flight Attendant, SRAM Transmission XXSL

TrickStuff Brakes. Probably swapping on an Extralite Stem and Schmolke Bars.

Two sets of wheels, one of them a Berd / We Are One / DT180 Combo, but I’m going to build a new set based on Nextie 30mm rims that stays real lightweight for my race hoops.

Weight should be right around 23.5# ready to go. Maybe close to 23# even depending on final components, even with the heavy AXS Dropper.

‘22 Yeti SB115 built out as “XC” as I can get it. Love the frame and never intended to get into XC racing but here I am, it’s not as light as other XC builds but it gets the job done and I love the way it rides.

Fox 34 SC 120mm fork, Light Bicycle wheels w/ DT 240EXP hubs, Conti Dubs (Cross King/Race King pictured), 70mm -17deg stem w/ Truvativ Atmos flat bar, mix of XTR and XT components w/ Hope E4 (front) and X2 (rear) brakes, weighs in just over 25 lbs with a PNW 150mm dropper.

The geo is a bit weird compared to modern XC bikes, steeper HT and slacker ST angles compared to something like an Epic 8. I’ve been eyeing an ASR frame so I can build this back out in full “downcountry” fashion but loving the way it rides and not too worried about the weight penalty currently, it’s “light enough” for the trails we race on here in Tx.

These look great! I’ve just been using a couple different cheap heavy Zipp stems while I figure out my fit. Once I get that sorted I planned to spring for a nice stem, I think that extralite will fit the bill. Lighter than some similar carbon options.

Exactly my thinking. If you look real closely at my picture above you’ll see that cheap heavy Zipp stem, and I have a second one on hand that I used for getting the right fit too

I’m at one of those rare moments in time where I’m totally content/confident with my cycling equipment (xc and gravel). On the xc side, Epic 8 expert with FA and xxsl pm crank and axs dropper. No changes since 2024 when I added FA.

I guess if I had one wish list item for the bike, I’d build up some zipp xplr wheels with mtb hubs, but no plans to do it this year. It would be an expensive experiment, I’d love to see some real world data on the aero improvement before pulling the trigger.

Add another of us to this list. New bikes are always fun and a few have me interested, but at the end of the day I can’t see anything I’d actually gain vs my current SW EE7 - it’s such an incredible bike and was definitely the one to set the standard for all these years.

I’ve got a 22 Epic Evo 7 for sale if anyone is interested. Has the rear shock and Seatpost.

I swapped out the XTR build over to a new ASR and also picked up an SB120

I might finally commit this year to cutting the steerer…

Hardtail SC Highball XC’ed out, under 21lbs w nothing special. Need to commit to new MTB and hoping these bs tariffs drop the cost a little. If new Epic is launched, maybe I’ll find an XL on clearance somewhere. Until then, 2.4’s give plenty of squish.

I just upgraded my stock wheels to Reserve 28 XC’s with the DT Swiss hubs. First time owning nice wheels on any bike after almost 20 years of riding

I have two sets of Reserve wheels for my gravel bike. Absolutely love them! Which hubs did you get? I have 350’s on each of mine. They’ve been bulletproof!

Yeah I’ve been impressed by them. Made more of a difference than I anticipated, and I love the durability of DTswiss. I also got the 350s!

I just received the new RaceFace Era SL cranks and I have to say they are pretty sweet!

The reason I am actually posting this is because this is now a “2-piece crankset” and no longer a 3-piece! I am going to get it on my MTB and see how it rides!
