2021 USAC Pro Road Nationals tracking

Just to give further context to what you’re saying here, the guys in front of Cory are not his team mates. They are from Elevate and one of the other teams. Cory was isolated at this point of the race.

The 2 riders in front were from elevate, and the rider outside of Corey was from Aevolo, it’s hard to tell from this who hit the corner first but you can see the Aevolo rider skid out as Corey slides and they’re both pretty close to the curb. I’d say this looks like a racing crash to me, I’m not sure the aevolo guy is necessarily at fault, they just ran out of road.

thank you, ill update

Generally I agree, but there is something about the angle of the Aevolo rider’s exit out of the corner that seems off to me

But it’s difficult to see the apex from this angle so tough to say

Looks like Cory was wide and moved left, but Aevolo was coming in full speed.

In motor / bike racing, you don’t leave your inside open for this reason. I think it’s a racing incident and glad no one is hurt.

It’s definitely hard one to tell from the angles provided, especially since the crash happened off screen and the official stream left a lot to be desired. I’m sure someone else on that area has another angle that would be way more helpful.

I’m sure Cory will post his GoPro.

It makes sense why Cory thought he had the dub though. If it weren’t for that crash, he’d at least be on the podium

Looking forward to seeing his footage

So inside guy dive bombed the corner and couldn’t hold the speed. Outside guy might not have hit apex tight enough and allowed an opening?

I think Cory was wide off the apex, and the other guy carried a ton of speed, and they collided at track out. Other guy should have hit a later apex which would have potentially allowed him to track out a little further out in front of Cory.

I’ve seen this happen a thousand times in motorcycle racing. Basically two people end up in the same spot at the same time.

Watching that tweet back, and I just noted that Travis bunnyhopped over Cory so he wouldn’t ride right into his head. What a smart reaction with very little time to react.

Too bad Travis didn’t came the same courtesy back! Ouch. He says he’s okay on IG, just sore.

There is a F1 crash illustrating this that I’m trying to find

Edit: found it. Not the perfect example but the Perez Ocon collision is pretty similar dynamic, except the outside rider gets binned. Embed won’t load externally but timestamp starts at 1:47

I’ve seen it a lot in SCCA Spec Miata racing… the cars are essentially equal so they end up in big draft packs.

We don’t have a massive racing scene here in Minnesota so happy to see one of our local riders John Heinlein III found his way through the mayhem and into 4th!

Unrelated, but heck of a year Trinity Racing is having

Haley Batten, Christopher Blevins with great results and Tokyo bound

And now Pro Crit Nationals win.

And unsupported at that.

I thought Quinn Simmons had a chance too… not that I wanted him to, but he worked himself up to the front in the final laps.

Would have been cool to see EF send some more over and let them run the crit.

The crit was USAC regs, not UCI.

TT & RR are UCI regs.

Here is a good one from today:

I feel like the reaction is a bit much.

Almost like I’m taking my ball and leaving. You have a whole season of racing still. This is literally your job, could do gravel and that prob won’t happen
