Don’t search on Twitter if you don’t want to see some rough looking injury photos - looked to be a huge gash on or above the left knee. Sure hope she can recover…
Chloe is freakin TOUGH. I worked with her former BB coach. Nothing but incredible comments and how tough she is. If there is any way for her to ride tomorrow, I would put $$$ down she will fight to do so.
Edit: not saying she SHOULD race tomorrow. Just that she will fight to do so if she is able. I sure hope she is ok.
Second that, poor woman looks to have another long recovery ahead
Not sure if you saw the photos of her knee, but if by some miracle there isn’t major muscle or tendon damage then she might be able to make a quick comeback but not fast enough to make the road race. She would just absolutely blow out any stitches.
There is no way she is racing any time soon…and i’m guessing Tokyo will be in doubt now.
Supposedly reports from her family that it is a long deep wound that involves ligaments, but no broken bones.
(I haven’t seen that confirmed, just passing on what I saw on other sites).
This is my thoughts after seeing the photos as well. It really looks like she severed the quadriceps just above the patella…maybe not all of them! Anyway, rehab after that sort of surgery is tough. If anyone can come out on top, it’s her!
Video. Hard to watch but not gruesome. You can’t really see anything in front regarding where her hands are (to the people speculating her braking methodology).
Sad…
What is with the trend of riders using the Giro Aerohead w/o the visor? Saw a couple of people do this in the Tour, but I chalked it up to them taking it off for the climb.
But there were a couple of women yesterday doing it (but wearing glasses) and at least Campanearts is doing it today.
It is an aero nightmare w/o the visor. Your ears are exposed and the leading edge after your ears is exposed and just a massive aero drag.
They’d be better off with an aero road helmet than the Aerohead sans visor.
Geraint Thomas seems to be on a tear…could be a good indicator for his Giro form. Let’s see if Dumoulin can beat his halfway time.
ETA - Wow…Ganna just came through the halfway mark and beat Thomas’ time by 35".
“Victor Campenaerts sets off. No visor on his time trial helmet, as per usual.”

WOUT with a strong back half!!!
ETA - and just like that, Ganna is in the Hot Seat. Looks like he is going to win the jersey.
Ganna takes it…strong ride!!!
Interesting take on TT bikes
I read that yesterday…almost posted it here but then decided it was complete crap.
Seriously…the whole article is simply designed to get people riled up, IMO. The idea that TT bikes are somehow inherently dangerous is just stoopid.
Wout almost casually dishing out a 2nd place at worlds. Can’t wait for the classics season to see what he can do there. He really can do it all.
There are some pictures out now showing the extent of the injury when she was on the side of the road, and it is truly gruesome looking. Do not view her Instagram story (or her Twitter for that matter) if you have a weak stomach.
Ganna’s TT today was outstanding though. What a rocketship he was compared to everyone else. I was also surprised to see Dumoulin nearly crash in that corner in the final kms.
All bikes and riding are inherently dangerous, with the exception of on a fixed trainer. While it true that you can find plenty of examples of road bike crashes, the author’s assertion that TT bikes reduce the bike handling and hence ability to recover from an oops even for highly skilled riders is hard to just dismiss. So the discussion point that TT bikes increase the risks to athletes with little return as everyone is one them is a reasonable one. For example should all TT courses have limits on terrain? The dangers of the Kona TT from wind are well known, is there a safe wind limit (the Froome rule) Why allow bike changes To non TT bike for hills if TT bikes are so integral to TT?
At one stage of the Tour, while commentating, Brad Wiggins somehow blamed the abundance of crashes recently on ‘modern bike geometry’. I think that kinda fits the same mold of stoopid
