Not certain how you can say it will be down to Sunweb’s tactics. If Hindley had dropped back, TGH would be in pink right now with a healthy lead.

Agree. The theoretical scenario discussed the other day is mute, turns out Sunweb knew what they were doing. Lets face it they had more information to go on than outsiders looking in.
On the Stelvio, kelderman could have had a much larger gap if he had Hildley by his side (>1 minute). The same thing today. Also, the psychology: that would make harder for TGH to believe he could catch Kelderman, and Kelderman would have much more confidence and motivation.
Team Suanweb didn’t trust their team leader and decided to bet on another rider. It was a gamble.
