2022 Giro d’Italia Thread

Arguably the most competitive GC field for any of the GT’s this year……I think Carapaz is the favorite to win, but I Simon Yates appears to be up for the fight. Roman Bardet is on form and Valverde is always ready to play The Joker.

I don’t expect much from Dumoulin, however……he still seems to struggle when the pressure is on.

The sprint stages should be awesome as well…MVP, Grimay, Ewanand Cav all shooting it out.

Also remember that the race starts on Friday this year, not the normal Saturday.

Should be a great race….really looking forward to it.

yes very excited for this. also i found out today that bein sports is carrying it live in the US on my fubo subscription (sling too i think), so it seems i’m going to be able to watch it fully without the usual hassle or extra subscription costs

First up on Friday.a perfectly flat stage, except for a nasty 5km sting in the tail.

The GC guys likely aren’t gonna gain any time on their rivals here, but will need to be attentive and stay at the front. Is that final kicker too much for MVP? Probably…but if the situation is right, he could be able to hang on. Could be a perfect finale for Valverde, though…and I’m sure he is relishing the chance to take the maglia rosa in his last year.

One thing interesting about this year’s Giro route, is the lack of super high altitude climbs. I think Matt White said there was only like 5km of road above 2000 meters in the route this year. On the surface, it would seem like this is less of an advantage to Carapaz. Valverde in his prime would have had a real chance here. My podium is: Bardet, Yates, Carapaz. This will almost certainly be wrong, and I will be forced to wallow in the self-pity of disgracing myself.

Yup…likely done specifically to avoid bad weather at higher elevations this time of year and risk shortening / cancelling some stages.

But even though there may not be many high climbs, there is a massive ~55k meters of climbing this year…highest of any GT in years.

Should be good to watch and enjoy this race. Yates will fall apart like normal is my prediction but hopefully I am wrong as I do enjoy his riding style.

:+1: recording and its not the NBC announcing crew.

(I’m watching on GCN+, but am glad for anyone who is gonna watch on bein!)

Not sure, but the bein feed sounded like the same Giro crew as GCN+ last year. Trying to hold out on renewing my GCN+ subscription. Looks like le Tour on GCN+/vpn is in my future!

Yeah the opening ceremony today on bein had Matt Stephens. Good enough for me. Can’t wait

Same. I like Matt. Did you catch the name of the other commentator?

Probably Ned Boulting? Those two often do the official race commentary for some of the bigger races.

Watched the opening teams presentation today while doing ventop. Not for me and hilarious as all of the songs are late 80’s or 90’s.

I am however ready for some giro racing tomorrow.

I have bein through my cable, but only see 1 hour recaps late at night.
Is there another bein outlet that is showing more?
I looked on my Roku and found a bein connect, but couldn’t find another besides futbol/soccer there.

Looks like final hour:
