I can only do 793 watts peak power and about 400 watts over a minute but I only weigh 48kg and am 13 years old🙃
If this is true, and you are a U.S. citizen, surely you’d be on the USA Cycling Juniors National Team. If so, please provide your racing # so that we can follow you. If you are not a U.S. citizen, please provide similar info. If you are not at this level, you should be inquiring of your parents to get you signed up to race competitively. Your #s are exemplary for a 13 year old.
This last year I started racing bmx again and I’ve noticed numerous sub 1min PR’s on my road bike. At 70kg it’s not to bad although I doubt I could ever do one min
Here’s 24s at 1121w. The funny thing is it didn’t even really feel that hard (comparatively), it was just a right place right time spur of the moment and in the zone type of thing. The 30s power on this effort was 1060w.
well that would still gap a good many riders. That’s a big effort.
Oh definitely. Generally it feels a lot harder for less watts but for whatever reason I was just ‘on’ during that sprint.
Awesome. @K42, when you have diamond legs, you have diamond legs.
One thing also to keep in mind…if you ‘calibrate cold’ and ‘race hot’ the watts will seem to come easier. In this case, I don’t believe that’s what happened…but just for future reference. Sometimes relative temp error will give you a false positive & you can fool yourself into repeating certain behaviours that don’t actually make a difference. (see ‘skinner’s superstitious pigeons’)
Back in the day I used to do paid consultation for zwift racers. First on the advice list: put your crank arm in the freezer.
@Brennus It’s pretty lame someone would do that. To be clear, the ride I did that sprint on was outside under normal conditions.
That’s a very strong effort to sustain that power for that duration. Good work.
May I ask, what’s your current body weight and FTP?
Most of these efforts are from a year ago and hoping to get back to these sprint levels next season, as i lost alot of top end this season. 1000 for 45 is certainly doable, not shown on the chart but i drop below 1000w at 40s, so another 5 seconds isnt too bad, another 20 seconds, maybe not
I’m around 190lb / 86kg and 6’1 / 185cm. According to all the calculators my FTP is around 315w but the highest I’ve seen on an actual ride was an average of around 285w for the first hour and 270w for a second hour. If I try to go harder for one hour I will crack much earlier and need to slow down to recover. But I can reliably crank out 1550w for 5s (out of saddle) and little under 1000w seated for 30s a few times during 2 hour group rides. I often get dropped on hills unless they’re short.
Goodness that’s a lot of watts.
Comparison really is the thief of joy.
I can do 1 watt for 1,000 hours. It’s a long sprint
That’s really interesting context.
Your peak and 5s power is impressive when taken in context to your FTP.
Nice work
