Yup, I am using Zwift running via PC and a Garmin foot pod (ANT+).
Does the time drag a bit on Zwift when running? It strikes me that it is built for cycling at 18-20mph not running at 4-8 mph
It can a bit on the roads. But the new running paths are much better. The speed and overall feel is quite good on them.
Sounds like my Alpe Du Zwift climb speed… often get overtaken by runners!
Plenty to spot at low speeds, spotted the Zwift Monster for the first time the other night…

Screen shot from a youtube video, was on a race I was watching live, haven’t captured on my screen yet…
Just wanted to chime in on the Zwift running. My biggest complaint is pace accuracy. The Garmin foot pods are not accurate enough unless you take the time to truly calibrate them. For example Zwift pace will be 7:00, treadmill pace 7:15 and perceived pace from many outdoor runs and HR data is more like 7:30 pace. Then again bike power meters can and probably do have the same issues…
Mine is off as well. I’m a casual runner at best, so I haven’t bothered, but should try to calibrate it sometime.
I can see Zwift’s angle after listening to Eric Min on the Zwiftcast, he’s all business, there was very little discussion on the users or community, it was all about expansion into e-sports/racing, growing the user base, and other business topics. If we contrast that to TR’s CEO, which mainly focuses on product quality and community, stable pricing, etc. Keep the up the good work TR team!
I completed agree. Both want to make a successful business, but the soul between them could not be more different, IMHO.
I like Zwift, but have always felt like they make decisions base purely on the bottom line, with customers desires almost viewed as secondary. Their implementation of user driven requests is comical compared to what I see in TR.
TR does not blindly implement user requests, but they are the most responsive software and tech service that I have ever experienced. They do turn down requests, but most often explain their reason. It usually parallels their clear stance of “does it make you faster”?
Zwift is far less responsive. And the example where Jon M. explained their stance on world switching was just short of condescending and dismissive. It was not a reassuring post with respect to how I think they see their customers. Their stance on not offering an annual subscription discount is equally upsetting.
The end result is that I would gladly pay for a lifetime subscription to TrainerRoad right now. They know how to treat their customers and are headed in a very good direction for my needs.
I have no such plans for Zwift. I am using it, but will ditch it in a New York minute if their direction stays from my needs. They show no sense of appreciation or loyalty to their customers.
It’s active listening and considerate responses like this that make TrainerRoad the king of customer service.
You guys are awesome.
Great response from the TR team, and they also have to remember that all of their audience is not in the US time zones so listening live isn’t really an option. Good move to include the content…
I drank the kool-aid with TR, bought the annual subscription and couldn’t be happier with their product, podcast, CEO ( @Nate_Pearson) and forum. I’m all in but there’s really no other way for me to support and grow TR. I have started giving my referrals away on MTBR forums as well.
I want to see TR continue to grow but as a consumer I’m out of options.
Spreading the word about Tr is the best way to help. Most cyclists have still never heard of us.
@Nate_Pearson, you need some brand ambassadors overseas, just saying if you think there are cyclist in the US whom haven’t heard about TR imagine how many haven’t in the rest of the world. I’m in SE Asia, with some air quality issues and wild weather over here indoor training is booming. Likewise in Aus/NZ, every time I visit there we talk more and more about indoor training through the winter season.
GCN has over 1 million subscribers, they very rarely mention TR, but have some partnerships with Zwift.
Maybe the majority of their viewers aren’t competitive cyclists but getting them to promote TR would be a good help I would imagine.
Fixed that for you.
Pay for play on GCN is junk, IMHO. I hate that aspect of their site and avoid it in general. Their growth is impressive, but I dislike the direction they went with it.
The visibility is nice, but I think TR lacks the funding to mix it up with the likes of Zwift on anything approaching a reasonably similar scale.
GCN has used and mentioned TR on a few of their test and fitness related vids. Definitely not the same push as the Zwift ads, but something.
I just think there are better ways for TR to build. They are putting more efforts into this based on some visible steps recently. Hopefully those will be fruitful.
I agree, but it was just the fact they have a very large viewer base and Nate’s comment that most cyclists will never have heard of TR.
I see they did a video recently with the sufferfest and their 4D training
I watched that. It made me thankful I’m a TR guy.
Data and metadata is traded. Zwift or TR data will be correlated with other data ‘they’ have on you to make often surprising conclusions and expose marketing opportunities with higher hit rates. At least that’s what they’re banking on.
I think the Zwift investment is more a roll of the dice on e-sports becoming as big as real sports are today.
£120M isn’t much for some investment houses.
I blame @Nate_Pearson for not having more funding for TR
. I want to invest more into TR and be part of the company’s growth, but there is no mechanism to do that. I have an annual subscription and that’s about all can do other than spreading the good word, “liking” videos and giving 5 star podcast reviews. Let me buy TR shares, “Get Faster” mugs, t-shirts, or something else to get TR some more money! I think I know where the TR future is heading which is great, I just want it all now… as I’m not getting any younger.
