Your best bib short recommendations - 2018-2022ish

Core bibs sold out so I ordered the pro team training jersey. :crossed_fingers: hopefully it’s good.

I am a huge fan of Velocio. I recommend the Classic bibs, but if you can afford the Luxe, they are well worth the upgrade.

The first time I tried on the Velocio bibs, my bottom couldn’t believe it… felt like I was sitting on clouds. Sometimes I forget to use chamois cream, and I hardly notice any discomfort. Most importantly, they give me minimal sausage leg :grinning:

Once you get the hang of how it works, toilet breaks are also very, very, very easy. Sizing is spot-on, the quality is amazing (my first pair have next to no sag, even 3 years later), and the customer service team are fantastic. I’ve got a few of the jerseys (which also fit perfectly) and have gotten a lot of compliments on them.

There is also a 30 day ‘Signature Guarantee’ - if you don’t like them, you can return them for a refund, no questions asked.

I’ve not tried many other brands e.g. Rapha and couldn’t give you a comparison.
I’m so happy with Velocio that I haven’t needed to try any others .

For the price La Passione offer really excellent choices, complete utter bargain, worth checking out.

I agree! I’ve had mine for almost 2 years and they still feel great! They’re expensive but if you break it down by $/use they are well worth it.

Loving the Assos Mille’s - have a tried Rapha, and a few others (Twin Six, Pearl Izumi, Stolen Goat) and these are the best so far.

Am tempted to go 7Mesh or Veloccio, but need to wait until a sale happens

Currently using Rapha Core bibs and some morvelo ones. Both pretty nice, although morvelo have a slimmer pad.

Bought some DHB aeroad bibs and did my first ride on them yesterday. Not bad for £55!

I’ve been using The Black Bibs for a while now after a few years off the bike. They helped me to be on the bike for about 1.5 hours from when I would struggle to make 30 minutes, this is trainer only. After about 1.5 on the trainer though I start to get a little uncomfortable so since Rapha is having the 25% off sale I went ahead and ordered a couple pairs. I’m also highly interested in the Veloccio stuff. It looks great and has had wonderful reviews. I wish Sfatto was still available. That stuff was great.

Thanks for the endorsement. I have seen the Velocio bibs, the price is just staggering. I think it’s hilarious they offer bibs on a payment plan.

I’ll hunt around for some discount codes or wait for a sale.

Got the Pro Escape Thermal 3/4 Bib Tights - decent for coolish weather (under 12°c)

Love Le Cols – the Pro’s are the best IMO. The Hors are made to sound as their highest end, but its really just an extra bulky pad, which I can’t stand.

I’ve also had great experiences with Castellis with the Progetto X2 Air chamois.

I did a 1.5 hour trainer ride with TR yesterday followed by an hour on Zwift with my new Rapha Core bibs. I did have a little bit of soreness towards the latter part of the session but nothing that some standing and position shifting couldn’t fix. As I type this now, my legs are really sore but the undercarriage feels pretty good. No soreness or chafing at all. I have another 3 or so hours on the trainer today so I’m going to give the Cores another trail run. Yesterday was laundry day, so they did get washed.

My Le Col bibs shipped on Friday and since they’re coming from the UK there’s no telling how long they’ll take to arrive.

I’m thinking about trying out a pair from OrNot next.

Assos are pretty rich, but you can get a good deal on the archive (last year’s) I bought Milie bibs for a good price and wore them on a 110k (74 mi) ride without issue. (I still used chamois butter though)

Even so I also have Primal, Craft and Gore Bibs that all perform very well, but the Assos are hands down the best.

Yeah, that too… But, don’t let that sour you on the Pro shorts - they’re a totally different beast.

Thanks everybody for the Assos tips. I picked up a pair of Equipe EVOs to try.

I found those at Swiss Iconic.

My goto shorts have usually been Pearl Izumi. I often pick them up on deep sale on Pearl Izumi’s site or at Sierra Trading post. I got a set of the top of the line Pro bibs and they are my new favorites because of the seamless suspenders. It’s just two strips of lycra with no sewing. So comfortable.

The medium sized Rapha Core bibs may be out of stock but the shorts are not. I ordered two yesterday (still 25% off) based on the lack of post-ride soreness/chafing I experienced over the weekend following around 7 hours total on the trainer while wearing the Core bibs.

I put on one of my LG shorts this morning for about an hour of endurance and I’m squirming around in my chair because of the chafing.

I just picked up some Core bibs and they were great when seated, but when I stand or walk the chamois kind of folds up right into my crack… and not in a good way. Hoping that a couple of rides and washes will alleviate that “feature” because otherwise they are very nice.

Also bought a Rapha Pro Training jersey and it looks good and all, but it has a wide band at the bottom that would ride up on me when on the bike. Decided that was a no-go for me.

Assos are a significant step up from almost anything else. Isadore is probably the closest I have found, though I’ve never tried MAAP.

I’ve always found Rapha very average.

Replying to no one in particular, but I’ve recently found the Castelli Velocissimo bibs to be very nice. Pad is a nice middle ground in terms of thickness, but has a nice firmness to it. Fit is good, but go up in size as anything Castelli. Good length in the legs, straps are comfortable, and nice fit in the torso (not so high they look like overalls but keeps the corona 15 in check). On sale for $65 on a couple different sites now.

I guess it all comes down to perspective. I went from cheapy bike shorts from Performance to a pair of Pearl Izumi bibs I got on sale for $75 and it was a game changer for me. I picked up an pair of Pearl Izumi PI Black Bibs and Wow! New World… but I still train in the cheap Pearl Izumi bibs with no issues.

Based on recommendations here, I tried Rapha Core. Wow, it’s a whole new world. Did a 2 hour trainer ride and had no undercarriage issues. I’ve always gone on the cheap side. I see that you get what you pay for.
