This helped quite a bit. Thanks!
Watching the Pisgah Stage Race highlights, looks like the Rejon Race front/Aspen Rear is the combo for the fast people
Looks like all the Schwalbe riders in the elite XCC and XCO on the weekend were running the super race Tyre casings despite what BRR says is faster…
Does anyone have any thoughts on the 60TPI Rekon Race for the rear of a hardtail raced on super technical courses known for flats? I only have experience with the 120TPI version which I flatted last year without an insert. I don’t think I’ve ever ridden a 60TPI tire so was curious about the real world difference besides a little weight.
Is the Maxxis Ikon still relevant?
Rekon Race is the worst tire I ever tried… on the other hand both Aspen and Ikons (old 3C compound) was great… Rekon Race was like too much in between and not good at anything
As a rear tyre for me, yes it is.
My experience is different. I love the 2.4 Maxxspeed Rekon Race 120tpi. It just works for my riding style and trails. In the 50+ race category for yesterday’s local XC race, the entire podium was guys racing the Rekon Race 2.4.
Anyone have any guesses on how many kms you can get out of these? Maybe a handful of XCO races or a single marathon race?
Probably just don’t buy em it concerned with longevity. The review said they’re noticably faster than rekon race tho… that’s impressive.
Saw this…
Thoughts on Peyote Rear / Mezcal Front? Or would a Barzo still be better up front?
You might be thinking of the rekon
The rekon race is pretty quick.
Peyote better be a lot faster than the mezcal because it’s 40g heavier!
It‘s the year of the fast XC tires. Now we are waiting for the Race King 2.4 and a new Wolfpack MTB tire. According to the founder Wolfgang, the compound and the tread pattern was already ready last year but he has some difficulties to get it produced. I‘m curious how all these new „fast“ tires will perform in the BRR test.
When you put it that way that’s certainly makes it seem significant. Interesting though that short of the Thunderburt Addix Speed the Rekon Race is one of the fastest 2.35"+ tires (Fast Traks as well) so if you need/want volume, it actually does seem to be a solid choice.
It has always stuck out to me that at some level the BRR data is misleading when compared to general understanding of the industry. Wider and lower psi trends towards slower at BRR but faster in real world. Understanding that much of that is driven by rideability/handling and not just straightline speed like BRR but still a tricky equation to solve here.
He’s racing Sea Otter on Sram drivetrain and Fox suspension, cannot be trusted! ![]()
