XC Race Tire Thread

Agreed…Race casing and Rapid grip???

Also:
dub (maybe 2?)
Tri (maybe 3?)
Mag (maybe max?)

When I look at the Dubnital you have these choices;

-Race-Grip
-Race-Rapid
-Trail-Grip
-Trail-Rapid

These are all 3/330 TPI, then on top of that you have black or tan wall… Haha, they really gave you options.. Normally, if a tire manufacture just released (1) I would just grab it and try it, this time around I am more waiting for someone to try these and read reports haha.

If the “trail” shows the same rolling resistance but better flat resistance to the “Race” I would go with that as 50-100g is not as important to me. These are the things that keep me up at night.

My gut is telling me to just get a Race-Grip front and Race-Rapid rear and move on with my life because the 2.4 is what I want and the tread pattern historically has been proven and now with larger lugs should be even better.

I went ahead and preordered two of the Race-Rapid 2.4’s. Figured start with the fastest and work from there. I’ve got a set of 2.4 Ricks as well sitting here waiting to try and a set of Peyotes from last year that I have barely used. Figured that will be some good options to play around with as the trails dry out this spring.

I don’t see Dubnital 2.4 on the BRR voting list yet, so will hold off voting this month to see if they add it.

Unfortunately no Race-Rapid 2.2 w/ transparent sidewall. :sob:

I just got a confirmation email from BRR that this tire has already been requested.

There it is. There are two other casing and compound variants on the voting board so make sure to vote for the „right“ tire

Maybe it was continental’s plan to have Rolling Resistance talk about Continental tires for months

It’s a bit ironic that Schwalbe is trying to simplify there lineup with fewer options to be more like how Conti was, and now Conti has gone in the other direction with all these combo’s similar to how Schwalbe had been… :man_shrugging:

It looks like a bunch of the new Conti’s are now on BRR.

I put my vote on Continental Dubnital Race Rapid 29x2.4 which is up to 14 votes now.

Hiya. Sealant is probably about dried out in my Peyote 2.4s so good time to test something else on my mtb.

If anyone wants to sent me a set of the new Continental Dubnital Race Rapid 29x2.4 to Chung test off road I’m happy to return afterwards.

Would be mounted on 29 mm internal Kovee RSLs.

I think the Dubnitals will be a shoe-in next month, so anyone with BRR votes left, I’d suggest helping ensure the 60mm G-One MTB tire gets in this month. Neck and neck with a road tire.

Isn’t that pretty much a beach racing tire?

I’m a simple man. I see MTB vs. road, I vote MTB.

So if the Race King was nicknamed the “King” do we call the Dubnital the Doobie? Because I want some of what they were smoking when they named it.

(Have 2.4 Race Rapid on order too. Don’t really need them until mid June, hoping backorders don’t get pushed out too much beyond that though)

I bought a pair of race kings for Leadville. Being more of a roadie, I’ve seen mention on here about overinflating new tires for a day or two when you first put them on.

If I’m running sealant and inserts should I add those and then overinflate?

How many rides do people recommend to break in the tires before the race?

I think from a “fresh tire” perspective for race day, you don’t need more than a handful of rides to make sure they’re seated and don’t have any issues. You can add sealant and inserts and overinflate for a day or so if you want and then just start riding, but I haven’t really worried about that to be honest.

But, especially being more of a roadie, practicing on them is a good idea. I think it’d be tough to wear them out before Leadville, although you will want to at the least freshen up the sealant when you’re closer. I’ll probably go with fresh tires and sealant the week before the race.

If you really beat them up having a spare or another set would be a good idea, and there’s always a chance of a flat or tire damage too.
