Will turning on PowerMatch after a year affect AI FTP detection?

I’ve been using my Kickr Core as the power meter and controller for a while. However, I want to start using PowerMatch to get more consistent results.

I’m fully aware that future workouts may be slightly easier if my power meter pedals typically read higher. However, will my FTP detection be “confused”?

Hey there!

We definitely recommend using PowerMatch so your power indoors and outdoors is the same.

If there isn’t a huge difference between your KICKR Core and your power meter, it’ll probably come out in the wash and won’t matter that much. Because AI FTP Detection analyzes all of your recent training data and goes beyond individual capacitive efforts, most athletes with multiple power meters have found it highly accurate for setting the right FTP for their training.

If there is a significant difference between your KICKR Core and your power meter, though, it may be worth doing a Ramp Test as you make the switch to ensure your FTP is accurate.

AI FTP Detection won’t be confused if you stick with your plan and continue to feed it power data over time – which it sounds like you’re planning on doing, so no need to worry about it too much.

Thank you! Any guidelines on what “significant difference” is? It tends to differ by 5-8 watts from what I see

5-8 watts isn’t bad – I wouldn’t sweat the difference too much personally! It probably won’t be super noticeable, especially after a week or two of consistent training.
