Why do the workouts have so much rest?

One more benefit that may be less obvious the first time around, after long build phases and specialty phases, it’s a welcome break to have something like seven minute sweet spot intervals that are still productive but unintimidating.

@Don_Key go to the TR workout page and click on the “custom” box at the bottom of the page and you can customize any of the TR workouts. This way you can eliminate the rest periods in the workouts.

Are you doing the suggested aerodynamic position exercises? Is your cadence at 95?

@BMAC615 Excellent questions.

Thanks - this is what I’m looking to do, but I can’t find a “custom” box anywhere. I’ve tried looking at the android/windows app, looking at the workouts page, looking at the workout scheduled in the calendar… I may have to give up and look for a youtube video of it!

I sometimes do the aero/cadence drills. I’m doing TR to stay fit (and get fitter) - I’m not really concerned with my speed on the bike. I tend to spin in the high 80s, which feels the most natural for me.

That particular workout suggests working on aero position and elevating your cadence. Both of those drills can raise your heart rate substantially compared to sitting tall with a lower cadence. The recovery is there to help ease you into being able to hold aero position and increase cadence. I know I need those recovery dips to get my heart rate back down enough to make it through the next interval.

Agree. Antelope appears in week 2 of Sweet Spot Base (ie. very early in the overall training plan). The following week you get Ericsson with 4 minute intervals, and the week after you get Tunnabora and Geiger with 3 minute intervals.

Coach Chad is quite explicit that his training plans aim first to build total time in zone, and only after that has been established work towards repeatability by more intervals or shorter recovery periods.

@Don_Key
I have no idea if it shows up when using a phone, but on a computer, it’s all the way at the bottom of the page in the filter column. Try it on a computer.

Funny enough, I had hunter scheduled for today and saw the 15 minute rest intervals and nope’d out of it. With a fan and the amount I sweat I’ll end up hypothermic (exaggerating). I swapped in Logan-3 and that worked out pretty well. This workout did leave me with an appreciation for how unpalatable 1x60m @ FTP or near FTP would be!

Having done Eclipse+3 I really looked forward to the rests. I think be thankful, as you only have to look further down the (Trainer ) road to see what s in store some weeks on . If youre feeling fresh, how about adding Disaster to your calendar!!! For a bit of fun

You type not enough rest wrong… :joy:

1x60 @ FTP is not a workout. It’s a race effort.

The difference is that with a workout, you have to save yourself enough for the next workout, which may be the following day.

Smashing yourself day after day is simply unsustainable.

I’m curious whether you did this more than once and, if so, did you notice any pros/cons v doing the scheduled workout with the long(er) rests?
