Why basing vo2 off percentages is misguided

I’m not sure that these things actually make training simpler, I think they make you feel that they are guiding you through the complex world of progression and choosing the correct workout, but that is because they have artificially made choosing the next workout harder than it needs to be

If you look look at a video like this (only selected this as it’s new) they aren’t talking about 1000’s of workout, they are talking about 6 workouts

and doing it hard, and just increasing intervals, progression isn’t just increasing duration and intensity, it’s doing the same workout better, once you eliminate the concept of failing a workout (I hate that concept)

If you eliminate the concept of failing a workout, you only have to have one workout for 2 min intervals, and just have it have 10 intervals, by doing that same workout each time, you can look back at it and go, ok last week I did 5 intervals @ 300 watts, next week I will try for 6, and if you do 5.5 … well you progressed, and the next time you can try for more (and if you only do 4, that’s all you had), and by having the same workout, you get to know what you can achieve, and have a reference, and helps build your confidence

I’ve had great success this year, by simplifying my workouts to just a few, and spending as much time as i can on the bike, not just making things all 60 mins

Sorry if I went of on a tangent
