Does he still coach you, or have you moved on but still have calls w/ him to check up?

I had to move on due to some life issues nothing on kollies endm…But still do calls to check in. Good reminder that i need to set one up to go over the offseason

I dont think Tim coaches amateurs, and if he does, i believe its pretty solid fee… And are we really counting these 3 coaches as equivalents? Theres a pretty big difference in experience.

If you have some pretty specific goals in mind, I’d focus hard on the coach that has coached people similar to you that were able to achieve those goals. Bonus points if they had achieved something similar as an athlete.

That’s impressive from the coach!

Please say more!

Have you considered someone like John Wakefield?

i’ll chime in as an EC athlete - I work with Alex as part of Kolie’s group.
If you’ve never been formally coached before the biggest thing you need to understand is the “plan” (i’ll use that term even though its not how any of them do it) is largely all the same. There are no miracle structures or workouts.
What does differ is their demeanour and just like any individual how you and them interact together. Your ability to “click” with your coach is going to be entirely individual but it is the most critical part. If you guys/girls don’t jive, it just isn’t going to go well long term.

Yes, but time zone, familiarity with US terrain and my sense is that his expertise is road cycling.

In this case you have Kolie, Tim in the FTP WKO camp vs Steve, some sort of Maverick Tinkerer.

There are some coaches out there who do wild things and some, frankly, who don’t know what they’re doing (IMO), but not in the rarefied air we’re talking. Just noting that because just because someone hires a coach doesn’t mean that coach knows what they’re doing, unfortunately. Tim and Kolie certainly do, IMO, and I’m sure Steve does as well.

That’s fair, my comment was more about the calibre of coaches being discussed in the thread not just anyone.

It is great advice from @Kuttermax. I’ve done exactly this to interview potential coaches. At the level of time and money investment you are thinking about, it is well worth it. You’ll find the person you want to work with and have more confidence in moving forward. Believing in the coach and the relationship is a big deal!!

Everyone is different, but after talking to a few different coaches in depth and considering a full time arrangement, decided I didn’t actually need, or want a full time coach with a fully baked plan with daily/weekly check ins. Ended up doing 3-4 check ins a year with a guy I knew and trusted. Worked very well. I became faster and had top level coach looking at my plans, keeping me honest and sharing his best practices.

Whatever you do, don’t expect miracles and plan (sic) to give a new relationship enough time to yield results.

Best luck!

Case in point, my son is wanting to get into racing more seriously and wanting to go with a coach. He is fortunate to have been able to meet in person with one of the aforementioned coaches and just did not click. He has experience with numerous coaches after ski racing at the elite level so he has a good feel for what works for him and what doesn’t.

I know you didn’t ask for alternative options outside of your top three but a few friends are working with the guys below and have really taken the next step from 4 w/kg to over 5 in the last year. Both in their late 30s.
Josh Tostado or Nick Gould with Pure Energy Performance.

Could you expand on this?

Could you pls expand on this?. Thanks

One of the advantages of some of these coaches being so open in social media is that you get enough to form an opinion about their style and coaching manners.

OT but would you have any insight as to how their training has changed under the input of those coaches?

Was it more/different targeted intervals (assuming volume remained constant)? Focus on threshold vs vo2?

I used to be coached by Kolie and I have nothing but praise for him. The only reason I stopped the coaching was down to a change in my work life and that needed my attention. If I want to be coached again, then I will go straight back to him.
