New bike? The one in the pic?
Yip the one in the pic which isn’t actually mine ![]()
I thought probably since you rode there, but didn’t want to miss out on NBD!
Good question to ask, after the Austin Martin / Yaris switcheroo. ![]()
First solo century ride today, and only second time doing the distance. It was a bit harder than I expected, but my average speed was about 1 mph than I expected. I do 3.5 hr rides all the time, but with a few century rides this year I need to get more familiar with 5-6 hr long rides. Although challenging, I definitely paced it better than my prior 4+ hr rides & races. Oddly, both my feet are really sore on the outside. Not sure why, have never had this issue before and have custom insoles. Maybe they were a tad too tight or something.
I built a 2nd wheelset for my gravel bike a few weeks ago (reserve 42|49 with 32mm GP5000 tires). I definitely felt the speed this ride which was enjoyable. Still have to get used to the handling as I’d only ever ridden on gravel tires before.
Pretty pleased I only had 5 minutes of stop time as well.
Nice work! It was humid as hell out there today too.
The upside to the north is when your days get beautiful - spring/summer/fall, they also get the longest!
When our days are nice it gets dark at 5, and when it’s blistering hot, the sun stays up til 8 pm+!
I’ll be ready to get out of Texas in the next few years for sure. Good work opportunities but the lifestyle doesn’t suit my families hobbies/interests well.
The local social ride for me today
I came back and gave the bike a quick clean in the back garden before taking it into the house as it was supposed to bucket this afternoon but it still dry so I could have stuck to my original plan of OS tile hunting on the gravel bike!
PS junk mail stops drip wax falling on the floor ![]()
Love this strava description!
With the first sunshine after a week of rain I sometimes find myself wondering what that big, bright thing in the sky is. Only a week. Yeah, I’ve never experienced a really high-latitude winter.
I took the day off as I had ‘use it or lose it’ leave to take and joined my semi-retired mate (actually near fully retired as he owns his business). The ride to meet him wasn’t that great. My winter bike is in at the lbs and I was on my good bike for the first time this year and it was rubbing big time, then it stopped and everything seemed smooth, then it started again. So back to the house to try desperately lubing stuff. Also for some reason none of my Ant+ sensors were working. I never had time to try and sort that though. I thought I’d be late and in a rush I took a wrong turning and made the mistake of trying to follow off road cycle paths. When I got back on track I wasn’t actually. The route was good for my final destination but it was miles away from the meet. Fortunately, it was close to my mates house and I passed him on route. ![]()
I was going to go the direct route to a new cafe but he suggested going by Stamford which is preferable but I thought it might be too far for him.
Despite the whole ride being on tarmac, 99% of them being roads, my bike said otherwise ![]()
PS Edit, For some reason about 200m after the cafe, the garmin locked up and rebooting it got my HR and Radar ant+ sensors back. The power meter was still missing but I think that it had either gone to sleep or is not in my HR profile; if not it’ll be a dead battery as its not been used in a while.
Down to Holly Lodge cafe with the local social ride. A bloke I hadn’t seen in a while turned up which kept the speed up, which was great for keeping my hands from going numb.
My power meter is dead, hopefully it is the battery as the bike has been in storage for a while. So I rode it on HR and threw in a few threshold blocks.
Lots of banter at the cafe and even 30mins of sun!
Skipped the commute today and took the day off and met up with my semi-retired mate and my other mate who is a top motor sports mechanic. It was freezing overnight so a later start time was agreed, which gave me plenty of time to take a longer route to the meet. Well that was before I went to leave and couldn’t find my house keys. Lol, after 5mins of looking, I suddenly realised where they were, the one room I was certain they weren’t in, in my trousers pockets
I decided to take the long route anyway.
I’d found a cycle cafe web site https://www.google.com/url?sa=t&sou…Qjjh6BAgIEAE&usg=AOvVaw3HcMwrXy4oPIKwJ_pkx1lp
And there was one in a place where I hadn’t been and it looked good and I plotted a route. What I hadn’t banked on was that with it being half-term Councils in the Fens had decided to close roads. Fortunately bikes got through at a walking pace.
I really enjoyed that ride today
The usual EBs group ride but for a change mild and although it had been damp overnight it allowed me to wear thinner gloves which psychologically made me descend better.
I sat on the front to the cafe where we were joined by another couple of mates who had been training for race season and I let them drag me to Kings Cliffe. One of them pulled off there, so I was back on the front to the pub. The solo 12miles home after the pub was surprisingly fast despite being half and half head/tailwind.
It was a structured workout, honestly!
Well maybe not ![]()
The bike needed a bit of a clean when I got back ![]()
Was signed up for a 100k gravel race today but a good chance of rain and wind chill in the 20’s had me making the decision not to make the haul.
My buddy was planning a similar distance ride about an hour in the opposite direction, so I joined him. Still a bit sloppy but minimal rain and not as cold. Had a 90 min deep tissue massage tonight and a week of lessened intensity will be welcomed.
That ride out of Four Notch is a good one. I haven’t been up there in a long time. Need to do so!
The route was great. A bit sloppy obviously but not muddy. The really sandy section was actually packed down perfect. A few roads are completely wiped out from a storm last summer, but there’s a new gpx track out that avoids those roads. Makes the route 45 vs 55 miles. We tacked on a bit extra at the end.
