Business trip to the UK. Got two outdoor runs in.
For me Edinburgh is the most beautiful city in the world, enjoy it. Cant wait for kiddo to grow up and visit it again.

First outdoor ride of the year. 65F, low humidity, partly cloudy, freshly waxed chain … beautiful. Shortened the rests from 2-min to 1-min based on the length of the turnaround. Felt great despite not getting enough sleep (dog thought that she needed a reminder at 9:30 pm last night that skunks aren’t great playmates and don’t smell good).
I made it back from work in time for the local paceline. It had been sunny and light winds all day until an hour before the start. It somehow stayed dry but there was moisture in the air and the wind had got up quite a bit. I maybe should step up to the fastest group to make it a proper workout but after a long day at work, quicker commute and no
I decided to go out with the second group. The ride ramps up slightly, as riders start skipping turns and getting dropped and there’s a bit of a sprint finish.
Not surprisingly most folk got PR’s on the tailwind sections.
Down to the Connington loop as I often do for my midweek Z1/2 ride. For a slight change I thought I’d loop through the village at the end to finish the hour. I think for consistency though, although I rarely complete the hour going that way, I’m better to loop through the new housing estate as the lights are in its favour. I also should have left it 20mins as I caught a shower going down Holme Road and I don’t think its rained once since I got back an hour ago!
Pretty windy again for the 2.7miles south down Holme Road I was 15.6mph for 153w and after the loop back up Holme Road (northbound) I was 22.2mph for 142w! Pretend Hills in the Fens ![]()
Moving to the hills of Washington is a tough challenge for endurance, where the rain and severe elevations turn every trip into a real challenge. Such changes in the landscape incredibly refresh the training process and make the body work quite differently than on the plain. After intense gravel rides, it is important to strengthen the body so that the back can more easily withstand the load. I was helped by an article on https://betterme.world/articles/betterme-fitness/pilates/ , which describes how Pilates improves the flexibility and strength of stabilizers. It is the perfect addition to cycling for muscle recovery.
8 Mile Tempo Run
Syracuse, NY
Not the best route. Less than half had sidewalks. For the most part the areas without them at least had wide shoulders and the few drivers that were out moved over to give me plenty of clearance. Generally well lit. One section of road led to highway on-ramps, so that wasn’t much fun, but it was fortunately short.
A bit happier with tonight’s Road Bike TT, I was 98secs faster over the 10miles for just 10more w (it was a faster night though). I need to learn again how to suffer more. I was a bit worn out last week after having ridden (mainly outside circa 9 days in a row) and the my HR would only go to around 80-85% max, tonight it sat on average at 92% and peaked at 97%
Beautiful ride, where are you located?

Hard Fail! These are attack intervals which I’ve done every Tuesday for the past four weeks and have been steadily improving…ie…easier to maintain peak required watts, faster heart rate recovery, easier to maintain the four minute/194watts after each set of attack intervals…but not today.
I did a moderately hard outside ride Sat and four back to back races…the first was a 15 miler that I just rode at threshold as a warmup then 3 of the INOX Masters series races…they are short, 5, 5, 7 miles but all the categories start at the same time so if you can catch the tiger’s tail and hold on you will beat most of the riders in your age category. They are fun but can be brutal do to how short they are they are generally close to full gas from start to finish lol.
When I started the first set of attack intervals today I was working harder than I should have to ride at the max required watts so I immediately knew I wasn’t recovered from the weekends fun. After the first set of four I pulled the plug and rode at low zone 2 to round off an hours ride.
Usually I would have just gritted my teeth and gutted it out but at 71 I’m finally starting to listen to my body and do what it tells me to do.
In two weeks, May 3, I’m participating in the NY State Crit Champs in Rochester NY and want to do as well as I can…over training isn’t part of the plan lol. I want to be on the starting line fresh, fast and strong…sometimes rest is the best training…
That’s around Pirin Mountain in Bulgaria. Just few mins from my village Banya.
There aren’t any groups around me, sometimes I wish I had mates to ride with, should be fun.
Looks like a cycling trail to me!
Yep it can be cycled with proper mtb.
