Where did you ride OUTSIDE today (2022)

That last pic prompted me to come up with a new slogan - “Polarize and avoid the purple!”

If we were famous enough, we could go on podcasts and preach about how purple is the “no go zone”.

The Darth-Wind tour! And then Ted Talks!

:joy: :joy: :joy:

I’ve given hundreds of lectures, and who knows how many corporate presentations. Generally either justifying my existence, or trying to get money for experiments and clinical trials.

But never put together a TED talk!!! If I were to do one today it would be titled:

“AI - It is not the solution you are looking for”.

That’s not directed at TR and AT. That’s directed at my field which is drug discovery and development.

Wait… but if you naturally ARE in purple why not go there? Is this a cycling paradox?

Long way out of town and turn right on red to keep it rocking steady on a ramping power warmup tonight:

“Purple is your new zone2” lol, with apologies to my coach.

It was a handful of degrees warmer than my previous steady endurance best on Sept 8th in the gym. Tonight’s updated targets were on the money $$$ for a fitness ca-ching :joy: Love it when the temps come down a bit, started at 74F / 23C.

1:45 endurance ride so no need to share WKO graphs of that.

We did have a nice sunrise off the deck this morning:

OK, Ok, Ok… if you insist…

Back to the usual Saturday route today. Yesterday evening it was forecast heavy rain till 9am and showers all day which scared a lot of people off. In typical Peterborough fashion it never happened, well not as forecast. There was heavy rain but only till 7.10am and there was a shower as I rode the start (just before 8am) but it was dry the rest of the day. 4 of us were out and had a good relaxed ride. I some how got back to a ‘nice work’ power pb. I knew where it was it was at a set of temporary traffic lights where we sprinted through to rather than allowing the traffic behind us to get too frustrated. Lol, the I booted up the pc/interval calendar. They have a summer season which starts on the 30 April and my real season pb (84w higher) was set a few days before :joy: My thighs do feel like its the most they have worked in a while. Once the varia has recharged I better make a start to cleaning the bike before I completely seize up :joy::joy:

Great weather today, high 50s and sunny. I got a pair of Giordana G-shield bibs + jersey on sale and used them for the first time today, really happy with my purchase

Arrived in Valencia, Spain (not the one near Magic Mountain outside of Los Angeles), Friday afternoon for a friend’s birthday party. Pre-party dinner Friday was great, of course, as the food is awesome here, and the intended ride in the hills north of Valencia on my 2015 Pearson Hammerandtongs (lower bike, not my fixie, both acquired when I lived in London).

(Yes, I’m showing off my bike closet my wife allowed me

However, I woke Saturday morning after 9.5hrs of sleep (very unusual length for me). The body whispered “I don’t wanna go” while the mind replied, “so what that we woke up late & have a lot to do today, I want to ride to ride”. I listened to the body, and Saturday night before the party (which, of course, started around 9p as we’re on Spanish time, though dinner the night before was at an early 8p), I realized my Garmin had a message for me.

Is this bad? It seems less than optimal. :joy:

Back on a plane in a few hours for home and skipping an easy spin this morning. So, no ride pics from me from this weekend. Instead, here’s a pic from two years ago tomorrow:

Lol, I was supposed to meet some mates at a local cafe for breakfast. I met some of them there after a short loop, as it was too close to go direct. Some of the lads never turned up so after breakfast we headed. We only missed them by minutes. They hadn’t calculated their route correctly. The ride was going great until the track split in two, somewhere near Peakirk, with one side dry and hard packed and the other potholed and flooded. I of course chose the unflooded side but that meant I had to veer to the right which must have exposed me to a thorn. The sealant done a good job of spraying my feet but it failed to do much else so after a failed plug I opted for a tube and pulled at least 4 thorns out. I took the road route back after that only to find there was one more thorn in the side wall requiring a 2nd tube. It held good though and after a meander on town cycle paths I got home.

I had something similar happen to me on my mtb in Colorado once. I was on singletrack, and as a couple ladies rode toward me in the opposite direction, I did the gentlemanly thing and rode off the trail into the brush as we passed one another. I got home with a little pressure left in the tire, but the next morning had about 10 orange seal dots all around my tire from punctures. :man_facepalming:

I’m pretty sure it has p’tured before but sealed. I’ve just ordered another WTB Raddler but other than the thorns and the failed plug worm it looks fine. I might try patching it and if it holds air keep it for a spare, its only done 2,700miles.

Mostly Z2 endurance ride through farm country. Beautiful day with temps in the low 60s F, partly cloudy, calm breeze.

I was supporting a buddy who was racing World 70.3 Triathlon Championships in St. George, Utah the last 4 days. I got a great chance to ride most of the course and other areas around town. The day of the mens race I spent the day riding around watching and taking pictures. Below is a picture of my friend on a little climb towards the end of the race and then both of us back at the condo. New respect for triathletes. You guys are amazing! And nuts.
