Where did you ride OUTSIDE today (2022)

Time to bale, er, bail out from the pic, amirite?

Last TT of the season for me. It was down at Six Mile Bottom. At the start of the season it was going to be on a fast dual carriageway course but it was moved to a sporting course. Fine by me I find those courses more fun. Annoyingly I have a tiny frog in my throat the last few days but hey ho.
The first lap seemed to go ok (by my standards at least) but after circa 16 miles my left bicep started to give up and I made the mistake of sitting up and away from the gears at side winds just before a descent. Which made the descent feel sketchy in yet more side winds.

I filled my bladder up to 600ml last night and added about a 1/4 of a 750ml and after a longer drink at the end I had this left

Chilly but sunny day in western MA for what may be my last outdoor ride of the season due to upcoming weekend work commitments. Leaves are changing late this year but there was some color to be seen. We finally invested in cool weather gear this spring and have enjoyed the extended season on both ends. Will be building up some cold weather gear next!

Beautiful part of Massachusetts. That’s D2R2 country if I’m not mistaken?

Yes very close! I don’t have a gravel bike (yet) but plan to have one next year so I can give D2R2 a shot.

What did you get? I’m contemplating getting some gear to ride outside before work this fall and winter.

@rkoswald Honestly we didn’t get too much. Arm warmers, knee warmers and wind vest (all from theblackbibs.com - super inexpensive but great quality) and it’s been comfortable down to upper 40s F. Next we’ll probably be adding long sleeve jerseys, jackets, gators and maybe toe covers to hopefully extend the season a bit more. Not sure I’m interested in riding below freezing, though

As has been near the new normal for the last few years I headed out to Elton to meet some mates for a gravel ride. The only difference the bridge into the park is getting repaired meaning I had to divert into town. It was a bit fresh first thing but once we started to head to Oundle off road it soon started to warm up; and by the time we got to the cafe it was comfortable for sitting outside :sun_with_face:

First long ride out in ages. Beautiful weather, hitting a few hills and just enjoying the fresh air and sun on the skin☺️

Went for a nice gravel ride with the wife this morning about an hour NW of Houston. They’ve poured fresh gravel recently, so there are some new technical challenges including some chunky sections and some fish-tailing. Was beautiful at the start at about 60F, but 80 at the end was getting hot. I’m ready for winter (which is pretty warm here). We’re in a pretty bad drought and air quality is poor and very dusty. It made for a beautiful big red full moon on the drive to the start though!

Desert riding. Daytime and dusk. Good thing the dusk ride was an easy one after a few beers

90 degrees at ride start, hit 95 on the canal in the shade. Hoping this was our last 90+ day. At least it’s a dry heat!

Slow roll, fall foundation miles to push past 11.5 hours for the week.

Lot of peeps in the water along the American River bike trail:

You can sorta see them if you zoom in, along the opposite bank.

The fish hatchery is my turn back onto the canal:

Always love seeing Mt Diablo off in the distance:

Next HC climb, should be going out next weekend. :+1:

Easy recovery spin this morning. The original plan was a hard pre-dawn go on the trails since the son is on October break so I don’t need to be home by 6:30a. After sleeping in until 6:45, the body and mind voted for an easy spin, so after walking the dog…

Autumn kicked in last week.

The closest to a vista view today was this:

Right before this, I saw a woman walking her white horse and I decided this time I’d stop and talk. I saw them yesterday when my dog and I went out for a trail run (7.2mi, longest in about 14 months, it felt good, with 1060’ of climbing) and I’ve seen them a lot over the years. With less than a year left here, well, seems like the right time  The horse is 13 and too old to ride, so she takes him on 2hr walks in the forest. He lives at a stable outside the frame above to the right. A good start to the day, well, except for getting annoyed – again – at the GoPro software changing the time of pictures from the capture time on the camera to the time it was uploaded through the GoPro Quik app to photos.

The temp was about 50F, which is nearly like @WindWarrior’s ride. Also similar is our climbing for the day: 587’ compared to 623’. Nearly identical rides!

They say 90 is the new 50!

To verify @mountainrunner claims on the similarity of our rides, I used a Hewlett Packard 5710A dual column gas chromatograph with flame analyzation detectors. The results?
