only posting this because a buddy asked what W/kg were these intervals being done… So I quickly calculated it and discovered some serious math nerd humor:
It’s good that you finally got a-round to this, @WindWarrior. Me thinks that you should have used a circle rather than a rectangle to highlight this, but whatever you do, just keep it constant.
Whorl was in my calendar today but I skipped Bald Knob yesterday to do the local combined clubs TT (I was a bit full of chemical dye from a CT scan and the TT was a bit subdued) but Bald Knob looked more interesting than Whorl to do outside.
I’m doing Gravel Locos on Saturday. It’s a quickly growing gravel ride in the small town of Hico TX. I got here early today to enjoy the experience, but there are no bike shops for miles. (Foreshadowing)
I did a pre-ride today, and while the ride was beautiful, I got my first ever flat on GK SK tires. It was a bad tear and wouldn’t seal. It’s 2 days before my event, so I’m having new tires installed but had to drive 80 miles to find any tires in stock. I also had to buy tires that don’t have great reviews. This is going to be interesting…
@Brennus thanks for the inspiration, its exactly what I needed last night!
Looking at power data of my “adopted son” lol, he did 300W for the first two bullets, about 15+ minutes, and then took a slightly longer route and did another 300W for 40 minutes. So basically I need to increase FTP from 270 to 300 and be able to do a 1 hour TT Hmm, I did 271W for an hour 5 years ago… #Goals
This is how my ‘son’ finished on the final non-overlapping Strava segments:
and mine:
His power is a pretty good proxy for what I need to do to stay with the A group when they are racing.
#Goals.
Its all about the process, am I right? Monday and Wednesday this week bagged some power PRs over the time period starting December 1, 2017 and up thru today:
Finally got outside with my new bike. Only 45 minutes due to having kiddo supervision duties but I’ll definitely take it. Cloudy, breezy, 75F, and a tiny bit humid. Great riding weather.
I think I have it dialed in. I pushed my saddle forward so I no longer need a setback seat post. The reach to the hoods and drops is good. My saddle is a little lower than what MyVeloFit recommends but my left IT band is still unhappy, so a lower saddle height helps.
Overall the 55cm frame is perfect. Certainly much better than a 59 with 2010 geometry (although that bike served me well for five years).
Also am really enjoying SRAM AXS eTap. Didn’t take long to get used to the shifting and only once this ride did I try to downshift with my right hand Shimano-style.
Did my first XC race on Tuesday! My goal going in was to finish in not-last in my class (I could stand to lose a pound or 40). While I didn’t pass a single person, I still ended up 15th out of 18 in the Sport 19-34… SO NOT LAST!
First race of a seven race series around Salt Lake City called the Midweek Series.
Today afternoon:
The main session was 4x4mins of Vo2 (or at least suffer) with decreasing rest times
And the inevitable 3x10sec sprint on the end
Mission accomplished with nice high watts
Supposed to have a sweet spot session but needed a breather so ended up doing an hour of power.
There’s a little climbing loop where I see how many I can do in 60 minutes. Start a lap counter just before it starts and repeat until the hour is up. As long as I’m on the climb before the time it counts.
Produces a good lot of effort in short period. Mostly in zones 5 and 6 on the climb.
One less than last time I did it but my FTP is maybe 30w less (and I’m a couple kilos more) after overtraining so not bad. Reckon if I try in a couple of months earlier before traffic wakes up I might have 2 more in me.
I have a TT booked for a months time. So I decided I’d recce it. Its actually been booked for 4 years, jus why I didn’t recce it before It was forecasted 29mph gusts though, so I decided rather than the TT bike, the road bike was the better option. It was really windy but I think on hindsight the TT bike would have been ok but I probably would have spent half of the time on the base bar.
Well yesterday’s hour of repeat zone 6 is definitely making itself known today! Good challenge for anyone to do and see how they improve over the training sessions.
