What workout did you do today? (2022)

Red Lake is so tough. I haven’t done it in ages but I remember thinking it was so hard. You should feel accomplished! Honestly, if this had been a 60 minute workout, I would have opted for an endurance ride. I tell myself I can do anything for 30 minutes.

Last big workout before 50k at the Tahoe Trail race next weekend. A poorly timed work trip will keep me of the bike most of this week.

Kinda a bummer as over the years I’ve found multiple days off the bike the week of a race typically has me feeling a bit flat.

This kind of sucked, mostly because I got out too late and it was nearly 100F by the time I finished. But I got them done and that wrapped up my first 200 mile week in a long time.

AT planned this one for me, with my Treshold PL being 3.5 before finishing this workout. Last treshold workout was 3x9 min @ 95 - 105% FTP while this one was 5x9 min @ 98-110% FTP. So was anxious going into it but it was definitely doable. :slightly_smiling_face:

Thank you, @kjdhawkhill !!

VO2 block is starting off well! This was harder than I thought it would be, but still liked it!

I went up 2 progression levels from Fri to Sat and again from Sat to today’s workout. I’m gonna go a bit backwards tomorrow and do Mills, but it’s 2min intervals so I’m still a bit scared.

Years ago when my threshold was so weak, vo2 was my fave! Now that my SS and threshold are much stronger, vo2 is so much harder

Can you rent a bike where you’re going for work? Or at least spin on a stationary bike? Maybe a place with Peletons, or a Soul Studio?

I have a pretty packed agenda so renting a bike and riding outside is pretty much out. Plus it’s Vegas and will be 100+. I will try and find a window to squeeze in a quick spin on a bike at the hotel gym. I’m spoiled by nice bikes though and can’t stand those things!

I shifted my flight home to early on Thursday so will at least get in a spin that afternoon before heading up to Tahoe Friday am.

Did Cloud Rest +3, man that was hard, the second half of the last set was just brutal I just wanted to puke my guts out… but made it through, probably the hardest VO2 max workout I did until now…

This was harder than expected after a week of travel and being outdoors doing fun rides/hikes. It’s amazing how quickly being in Colorado can make me forget that riding in Houston heat and humidity, even on the trainer, sucks!

Another outside VO2max workout. I don’t think I could get through this one inside on the trainer.

On the other hand, I wouldn’t get stuck behind construction traffic on the trainer.

This was definitely not easy:

But it was probably easier than a normal trail ride around here which kinda makes me feel good!

Yesterday, I did sprints and they killed me:

And Monday was my fave, Tunnabora -5, yup -5, kind of recovery and kind of skills practice:

I need the cadence training every once in a while.

Good old Pettit

Still enjoying the variety of Train Now. After finishing a full training cycle with ftp increases (and associated PL decreases) I saw similar variations of the same workouts many times over. But here’s what I got yesterday. Stretch workout as I’ve been skipping Saturday SS workouts for a while now to ride outside instead. My PL had tanked - this was a 4.5.

Late on my post, but here’s my ride from this morning. This was almost all out. Lots of mental bargaining and had tons of bailout points, but I made it!

I’m afraid though that if this workout is very hard then how will I manage 2min intervals staying at 120%, or worse, 2.5min intervals!

I’m one of those old guys who’s way better at 30/30s than SS, so this one hurt, but it was more mental than physical. I always hate the SweetSpot phase, but it always helps me get faster.

Palisade +1

This required a lot of mental focus by the end.

I initially wanted to go all the way to 3 minute intervals, but I think I may stop here with my tiny little short interval workout block. I was considering my next jump being 2.5 minutes at a lesser intensity, but I’m wondering if a 5% drop will make that much of a difference anyway. This workout got my spirits down a bit, and I’m definitely not as excited to do any more vo2 workouts for quite some time.

Looks like you did two days in a row of very hard workouts. I’m not surprised you’re a little down. Don’t forget to give your body time to recover and adapt.

No matter which way you go, have fun and stay strong!

Easy day. I’m doing an online 3 day music seminar, and this one was easy enough to do while still paying attention to the session I was in.
