What workout did you do today? (2022)

2nd ride of SSB MV 1 (after completing SSB I, II and SusPB MV)

Two 30m SS intervals, almost at the FTP AI thought* I should be at at the end of build :). Mains power failed from 12.30 to 20m on the second interval and that was sweaty misery without the fans (I have back up power for my kickr and computer thankfully)

10 week difference and 22 watt improvement. I love to compare the same workout as I progress. It’s very exciting!

Saturday is Mesachie +6, which I did about 10 weeks ago as well. Then recovery week, and new FTP baby!

Based on my plan builder, I only had 5 weeks of this base plan, which I think is my max. I think the grave would be a little too deep to crawl out of if I had another week of intensity.

Been doing a lot of SS, so I went off plan and mixed in a few anaerobic efforts to try to get my Garmin to be nice to me.

Last week of SSBMV1 for me kicked off on Tuesday with Truchas -3. Breezed through it. Wednesday’s endurance ride I cut short, feeling grotty.

Yesterday was Eichorn +1, basically the same workout without the 30 second breathers. Night and day difference, depressingly tough to get through, but now I’m laid up in bed with the lurgy, so that probably explains that…

Forecast is good for the weekend…hoping to recover and get a good 3.5 hr endurance ride in the sun on Sunday…may cut this weekend’s threshold workout in the interests of not prolonging this bug…

Satisfying to get good adherence. I jumped straight from 3x10’s to this, but I might need to do some 3x12’s and 3x15’s to consolidate. We’ll see. The gaps were pretty darn relieving

Last two workouts in the past two days I have really enjoyed.

Yesterday:

This one I thought I was going to hate but it turned out to be a fun one. The variety kept me engaged.

Today:

Nothing too exciting but I remember the first few months using TR I would struggle with 4.x and 5.x Threshold workouts. Pretty sure the only workouts I ever “failed” were those. But this (and the last several Threshold workouts) felt very good and I have been marking them moderate post workout. Just nice to see improvement not only in numbers (FTP, HR, PLs) but just in terms of feeling good and confident I can knockout a workout.

Wednesday’s Workout. This was pretty tough. I marked it Hard and I was slightly down on the Power Targets. Am pretty certain there is a consistent difference between my Hardtail PM and my trainer so wasn’t too distressed by the difference. It was tougher than I expected though.

Today (Friday’s) Workout. This was my first “failed” workout in a while, I think. The first two intervals felt pretty good and whilst I was working hard, I thought I was going to cruise through it. The third however I found the unders were a bit far under. The fourth was just all I could manage.

Think I’m battling off the bugs from the family, though feeling scratchy so trying to be cautious. Definitely feeling the additional fatigue of Build and all the Threshold work. Looking forward to a very, very easy recovery ride in the morning then the rest of the weekend off to hopefully be ready to go for the last week of (Threshold) Build.

I don’t consider that a fail in the least. Great work. It is odd to me though that you are exhausted and still way overshot the recovery intervals. Give your body the rest it needs. Enjoy the weekend off and good luck next week!

Did TR actually issue a struggle/failure survey? To me it doesn’t look too much of a failure. I’ve had sessions close to that which mentally I thought was a failure too (at the time it sure didn’t feel pretty) but TR has marked it as a pass.

I think you & I (and not a few others) have very different definitions of a failed workout :joy:

Nice work!

This one popped up on Train Now and I’d not seen anything like it before. Just coming off of a gran fondo training plan where the VO2 was long, low(er) efforts so this was a nice change.

Thanks guys! I really do appreciate the vote of confidence!! Definitely a boost to the morale this morning.

I got a the “failure” survey after marking it as “very hard”. I also thought/hoped I’d done enough

This just in, 2x20’s hurt even if they’re 1x17.5 & 1x18. I’ve done a lot of MTBing & a handful of vo2 workouts recently but I just can’t get in a training groove. I figure I need some longer intervals so how about 2x20s? Well, the road I chose wasn’t quite long enough but it’ll do. I felt really good on the first one & was thinking to do 3 as I coasted down the hill. That changed on the way back up the hill when I felt I was having trouble maintaining threshold. It averaged out ok & intervals.icu gave me an eFTP increase based on the first go so I guess there’s some kind of progress I’ve made. Anyway, this is what I did today:

Solid sweet spot session today. This felt pretty easy despite my garage pushing 80 degrees.

Another comparison to finish off base before heading into build. This one only a 6 week and 10 watt difference, but still awesome to see the progress.

I typically just do free ride or don’t ride much indoors for my recovery week, so is there any harm in me finding out my new AI FTP like today?! I want to know and see what my new workouts look like! :grimacing:

This went pretty well. It was Hard, mostly fatigue sensations though. Doing the Threshold for 4-4.5min at a time was certainly a very nice way to do it.

Slipped out for a MTB ride after which was nice. 2hr/0.73IF. awesome to be out and about and trying to refamiliarise myself with the trails. Definitely noticed the lack of MTB time. Very keen to continue the balance it’s a nice way to get some endurance time. Though it was also freaking cold :sweat_smile:!
