What time of day do you workout?

The odd time that I have exercised earlier in the day I find that I am energised but I do end up eating a hell of a lot more on those days than I should
If I wait til after work I can sleep though the hunger and be fine once I have breakfast the following day

I’m up between 5:00 and 5:30 most days.
Walk dog, cappuccino, email, 3Ss and a shower. I’m on the trainer between 6:30 and 7:00.
Out the door by 8:15.
Lunch at my work desk around 12.
Lifting at the gym 2:30-3:30.
Dinner 6:30 or 7.
Bed no later than 10pm

I really wish work didn’t get in my way.

At work at 0430 , transfer operational platform at 1455, on the trainer at 1515.

I start my workouts at 7:00pm during the week. Weekends, if I’m riding outside I’ll start at 8:30am. If riding indoors I start whenever I feel ill be uninterrupted for a couple hours.

Currently ATL is 105 with CTL at 87. By racing season my CTL should be closer to 115.
My CTL took a pretty big hit in July after a bad crash. The TR graph doesn’t include my time cross training on inline speed skates during the fall. Without kids, working from home, and having a wife that races too, gives me a pretty good situation for training. If I could just get rid of this job, I’d have it made.

Good to hear all the replies on this.
I was once a really early riser, relatively speaking I still am, (6.30am) but a dog walk, kids, school drop, make lunches, breakfast etc and get to work by 8.30 ish means its hard to fit in a ride.
I struggle to fit a 5am/5.30am rise 2 weekdays (I’m on SSBLV) and sleep in the other days. If/when I put it off to late in the evening I find any excuse to not ride. I’m also strength training 3 days a week (non ride days) at lunch time - that’s easy to fit in ( I get out of the office).
I guess I just need to HTFU.
My weekend rides are almost as random, kids sports Saturday make it hard but if I don’t do it Sunday morning pre 8am any number of family activities/chores will get in the way.

I work from home as a software developer so have a flexible schedule. I do a few group rides a week where I’m out the door at 5am, so I’m used to getting up early, but I find the hard trainer rides too tough at that time. So usually I’ll get up early, get a bit of work done, then jump on the trainer at more like 9am after the kids have gone off to school. If it’s just a z2 ride I’ll do it at 5 or so before the rest of the house is up.

I usually have the most amount of energy and motivation around 3pm. Post lunch, bored of work, and ready to do something else. I too am a software developer and work from home often, and I find it helps to jump on the bike, do a workout and grab a shower and then sit back down and work for a couple more hours while the juices are still pumping, then make dinner and chill out before going to bed.

Alternatively if I go to the office I usually try to start my workouts by 6:00pm. Bit more planning involved so I can finish my workout and then reheat leftovers or make something quick for dinner.

I’m also doing the low volume plan (M, W, Th) so I have some wiggle room if my schedule tightens up.

I hate working out in the morning. I find my best days are when I can get up have coffee and a big breakfast and ease into the day. If I have to be out the door by 7 I’d rather get up at 5am and have time to do my normal morning routine than wake up at 6:45.

Need to be done with my ride by 6am during the week and 6:45-7am on weekends due to family commitments (kids waking up, etc). Normally up between 4-4:30 and on the bike 30 min after waking up. I do this 5 days/week currently, so I have 2 days to sleep in until 6am and catch up a bit on sleep.

3.30am wake up and on the bike by around 4.15ish. Then ride until my son’s baby monitor goes off. That can be anywhere from 5.15 to 6.30 so in some ways I guess he’s my coach :man_shrugging: Trying to resettle a toddler when your heart rate is at 180 isn’t a recommended cool down or rest between intervals. :grimacing:

First thing in the morning after a cup of coffee. Good to knock it out first thing of the day and feel great. Usually ~4am if I’m doing mornings, 8 if I’m doing afternoons and 3-4pm if I’m doing nights.

Whenever I can squeeze it in. On bad days I have to do a run after dinner with my kid. Or get up at 4 and do a TR workout before the office. Pool opens at 6. Good days are when I either work from home or split my workday so I can workout around 3pm. Weekenda I usually leave for my long run on Sundays and long ride on Saturdays at sunrise to not take away too much family time.

When I have TR-scheduled during the week I leave work an hour early to fetch the kids then get on the trainer around 15:30/16:00 so I get done the latest around 17:30. During the weekends I usually ride after lunch but on my distance ride during sundays I get up and out as soon as the sun goes up. Strength gets by during the evenings when the kids are asleep so around 20:00.
