Love rock climbing/bouldering as an alternate sport to cycling and triathlon. Has great benefits for strength and its just such a different style and pace to going hard on the bike, but you still get that feeling of a great workout as well ![]()
I took up golf about 1.5 years agoā¦Iām still terrible, but I enjoy it. So far Iāve resisted the expensive gear part of it, but I know thatās coming at some point.
I did that in college - we have these 2 years of college here between high school and university, and each of the 4 terms you need to take 2 sports courses. Thatās when you try all these sports youāve never done before, and will never do again. Fencing, karate and handball (both kinds - the team one which is a mix of basketball, hockey, soccer and rugby, and the one played in a squash court without a racquet) were part of it for me. I developed respect for anyone who practices fencing for real, but still donāt quite understand why one would insist on doing such a strange sport.
I like indoor rock climbing but havenāt been going due to Covid.
I really should be better about doing core work and yoga because climbing and cycling have a huge overlap in terms of mobility, core strength, and light weight.
I should also lose a LOT more weight.
Currently just cycling and golf. I went to a small school so I played almost every sport I could. Honestly I didnāt even know cycling was a thing, so golf was my real passion.
Now all my money goes to cycling and I struggle to balance family life (3 kids), golf (4+ hours), or getting outdoor bike rides in. Usually default to post bedtime trainer rides.
Cycling, mtb and cx is my main sport. I used to be a runner ,and was a much better runner than I am a cyclist. Did Triathlon for a bit ,but found the swimming so boring and, I hate the cold, so gave that up.
My other sports are Motor racing ( Caterham 7 270R) and Horsemanship.
Horsemanship is a lifetime of study and learning, and is not really a sport, but if I choose to do (e.g.) a jumping competition, then that part is a sport.
I travelled to the Greek Islands with my family on our 26ft Stella which we also raced. I have loved sailing too ,but what with the running ,cycling et al, I do not have time, or money for anything else

Alpine skiing is my other favorite. In fact, it was skiing that led me to cycling ā as a means to lose weight and to boost the strength and endurance of my legs. I know skiing and cycling require slightly different muscle usage but I have found when Iām actively training over the winter I can ski much more without taking a break. Lol my biggest vert day was 21K 500ā/run. That big vert day was not at the below location! ![]()

I got back into fishing this summer. Our grand trips got cancelled and my wife and I spent time at my Momās lakehouse. Did chores, did some cycling, and started to venture back into fishing. Both trout (and I could hear them laughing at me) and I was casting for musky but catching nice largemouth. I want to get back into hiking with the over/under 12 gauge looking for grouse but not this last fall and I am considering archery again.
As much as I missed the race season at least it gave us time to dedicate to other pursuits.
Participating
Just cycling now - and thatās been mostly indoors for a while
Also taken up yoga - itās been an āeducationā ![]()
Used to do a lot of other things pretty regularly Rugby / Weight training / Badminton / Swimming / MTB / Running / Hiking
Watching / interested in
Seem to have lost my passion for football (soccer for our US cousins) over the last few years, even though Iām a lifelong Liverpool supporter so by rights ought to be more engaged than ever
On the plus side, have this last 18 months or so rekindled my love of NFL, which I got really into in the late 1980s / early 1990s - Go Giants! (yeh ok I know ā¦) ![]()

Also really enjoyed watching the on line coverage of the various Autumn cycling races last year (world championship road race was a particular good one)
Still like Rugby ![]()
Reading this post back to myself I actually realise how much my range of activities I participate in has shrunk away over time - nearly 50 years old which is far from āOldā but somehow Iāve allowed my world to get smaller ⦠![]()
Might need to do something about that before time really does pass me by! ![]()

Chess
Taido is my other sport/activity. It is a fairly obscure martial art unless you live in Japan or Finland. There are only a couple dojos in the USA, but it is pretty cool since I can learn from the man that brought it to America and Iām training the same stuff my kids are training. I never did anything like it until I started a few years ago, so it is a big challenge for the mind and body. Sparring is point-based, so Iām not coming home with broken noses or anything (at least not often). There is a lot of side-to-side movement, going to the ground, moving in every axis, etc., so I figure it is a good complement to cycling.
Bit of a mixture, but the main second sport is rock climbing, predominantly trad or bouldering.
I also enjoy ice skating with my daughter and a bit of trail running.
Really not into team sports, havenāt been since I was a kid. Canāt stand watching sport on the TV either, unless itās cycling!
In high school I played soccer, gymnastics, and sailing, then played ultimate frisbee in college.
when i was in high i played taekwondo and soccer. i really missing those day

I noticed scuba mentioned on at least one occasion. Now thatās something I wish I could do more. Donāt fancy buying a drysuit and diving around the UK coastline. Although Iām told itās great for wreck diving.
Dungeons & Dragons, cycling just helps me build endurance for longer campaigns.
@toribath I got back into sailing too. I have to admit my cycling days are seriously declining and sailing is going back up after about a 20 year break. I race Lasers primarily - fairly athletic singlehand boat raced in the Olympics too.
Freediving. I can hold my breath for a really long time.
Iāve been doing trampolining and gymnastics weekly since January (Iām 42
).
Right now, hunting season. Getting ready to go on my yearly 2 week trek out to somewhere in the Rockies to unplug, camp, and chase Elk and Mule Deer. When Iām home itās deer and waterfowl. Side benefit, I usually have a couple hundred pounds of just about the best protein that money canāt buy in the freezer ![]()
Other times of the year: Ski racing, used to be into cars and time trialing, like getting out snowmobiling for a speed fix now but thatās only with friends as Iām not buying one. Fishing when time allows. Used to be into Golf, but not enough time. Iām sure Iāll get back into it again.
