What makes you angry?

I’m grasping it perfectly. You are trying to put your expectations on others, which further up you said this wasn’t about. The rider who clings to your wheel despite being told to jog on, is the only one acting like a dick and holds full responsibility and accountability if they crash into a hole they didn’t see.

Yes, likewise :rage:
GCN+ their log in system is so tedious.
Passwords.
Wasting time looking for stuff eg. pump, inner tube ,chaintool etc.
People who walk, run or ride with headphones .
Early mornings
etc etc

The solution here is to never run

A basic rule of bike paths: cyclists with mirrors are the least likely to realize you’re coming up to pass them. “I have mirrors now, so I don’t need to care about what’s behind me anymore “.

This thread makes me want to ride mountain bikes exclusively.

No, you really aren’t getting what I am saying and this just confirms it.

Have a good one.

Here in the UK, I’m starting to get sick of riding with people who, every time a car comes up behind, shout “tail!” and want us all to go single file, when actually the highway code says it’s fine for us to ride 2 wide.

Great in theory, but that can still be ruined in a multitude of ways that lead to anger for me at least:

  • Runners & hikers oblivious to their surroundings, often because of headphones and being totally tuned out, that have no idea I am riding slowly behind them without a loud bell or shout to make them aware of my presence… only to startle them and have them act as if I’m the one in the wrong for wanting by and spooking them.

  • Stravaholes that are set to own a segment or other silliness that leads to overly selfish behavior.

  • MTB Riders with external audio, intent on sharing their “great music” with anyone in the area.

  • Rutted trails from idiots riding in overly wet conditions when they should have stayed home.

  • Path riders that stumble into MTB, and feel the need to simplify and remove any trail feature that adds character and requires actual skill to ride… in the pursuit to pave the world.

I could go on, but am trying to look for the positive and focus on that lately vs the negative stuff in life :stuck_out_tongue:

One of the guys we ride with regularly (whom I don’t particularly care for anyway) started riding on our trail rides with a speaker…and really crappy music, too. He seemed totally offended when I and another rider asked him not to bring it on rides anymore.

The lack of self-awareness of some people is staggering.

Just to be clear, Rule 66 does not say , its fine to ride 2 abreast at all times, Rule 66 of the Highway Code says you should never ride more than two abreast , and ride in single file on narrow or busy roads and when riding round bends.

If they are doing it on wide, quiet rides, I get it

  • That is likely my biggest pet peeve in so many aspects of life right now, not just restricted to cycling. It shows in a number of ways but the ‘It’s all about me’ way that people act without any recognition or consideration towards those around them is more irritating to me with each and every day.

You mean like people who talk (scream) on speaker phones in (supposedly) quiet public areas?

No, I love those. I really need to hear both sides of your conversation while I’m trying to work/read/relax. Hearing only one side screaming is never sufficient.

Well, this is a thread on what makes me angry, so might as well let it out.

The headphone thing is super annoying and is mostly regulated to trail runners here - yep, same reaction; I’m the one at fault because I “spooked” them. The external speaker thing is rare here but I’ve run into it, it just doesn’t really bother me but I wouldn’t do it. I largely prefer to hear the sound of the trail. Luckily the other things you mention are pretty rare - we’re in a temperate rain forest in WNC so if we only rode when it was dry we’d never ride (although we’re in a dry phase now for some reason) - the only time it’s really bad to ride the trails is during the freeze thaw cycle - and I actually enjoy other forms of riding/exercise so I use that time to TR or hike, run.

But… all of those things you mention are PALE in comparison to dealing with errant motorists. I’ve had plenty of rides ruined from my reaction to almost being killed. Being annoyed with a trail runner is small potatoes and easily recoverable.

And… I still LOVE road bikes, and road riding. There’s a zen like state I can get into on the curly bar bike that I love. It just takes keeping to the secondary roads, riding alone, and making sure I stay in my bubble of safe roads. Even with all that, I still notice I spend a ton of energy and cognitive load with my head on a swivel. The cognitive load on the mountain bike comes from pushing myself on a tricky trail and it’s typically all on me. Big difference. But, I hear ya!

Man, I had an incident last fall with someone when I was riding into work. On a multiuse trail, rang my SpurCycle at least 3 times as I was approaching 2 guys walking side by side. As I went by (all the way over on the side of the trail), one the guys starts yelling at me.

Slammed on the brakes and turned around and started ringing the bell constantly “Can you hear that now?!?!?!” And then I notice this jackass had earbuds in!!!

Gee, sorry I didn’t have a bell loud enough to penetrate the hearing-loss-inducing volume you needed to listen to your music at. GTFO.

Ditto on loving road for that nearly spiritual aspect, especially when solo and hours deep into a ride where life just falls away…

until some prick decides my life and presence on the road is annoying enough to justify buzzing me within a foot at 70mph+, only to return to a road position more centered and would effectively give me a nice 3 foot space as he continues to his destination after his “thrill ride / scare tactic” of risking my life for his entertainment and satisfaction… yeah… some humans are just plain terrible :frowning:

Put yourself in the place of the motorists though, having to pass a line of cyclists is annoying already, when you’re taking the full lane, it’s tougher. It just comes down to an appropriate time and place to ride 2 across. And I’m all about your full rights out there as a cyclist, it just takes a small amount of compromise sometimes. God forbid, it would be nice to see the large unruly group rides around my area to pull over sometimes too. I know that’s not gonna be popular… but I do default to cyclist safety first, I’m just of the opinion that lane control is best done in a single file formation.

Those people are the absolute worse. There’s the impatient motorist, then there’s the example you gave above. It hasn’t happened to me (luckily) in a year or two, but the last time it did, I truly thought I was going to die. I responded poorly to that “gentleman” and I’m very glad he decided to keep driving…
