What are your embarrassing or shameful bike confessions?

I got passed by a group that was easily 20 years younger than me and skinny as rails. All in Rapha gear.

My conclusion: I need faster kit,

Guilty as charged.
In my defence I don’t get to bike commute that much due to parental responsibilities but when I do it’s on an S-Works Tarmac!

I totally understand that and would do the same. For me it doesn‘t feel like it‘s worth adding ~5min of preparation to a 40min commute to take out the better bike - I just want to go in the morning. I should probably start doing it just to try.

My turn…

I have new, beautiful white Lake road shoes but I’m probably going back to SPDs for my road bike (SuperSix, narrow Enve bars, Reserve 52|63 wheels) :grimacing::grimacing::grimacing: My Assioma Duo Shi pedals spin like crazy…if I barely tap them I swear they spin 10 times and I look like an idiot trying to clip in

Edit: I took apart my pedals, cleaned them reasonably well, then loaded them up with Park Tool grease. They feel the same when riding but don’t spin around like crazy anymore when trying to clip it :exploding_head:

This must be an Assioma thing. I’ve never f-ed about at traffic lights so much as I have since getting Faveros. They just spin like crazy every time I try to clip in

I swear I can make them spin if I look at them too hard  The extra stance width from the Duo Shi has been great for me from a bike fit perspective though.

At least you know the bearings chosen by Favero are good.
Also the stock pedal bodies on the Assiomas tended to present the pedal body too far back, meaning that most times I went to clip in the wrong side of the pedal was facing my shoe. This was one of the reasons I went to the M-force 8 MTB SPD-compatible bodies. My short-term bodge to the swinging pedal body problem was to strategically glue some fishing weights to the underside of the pedal body, but I ended up not bothering & just swapping the pedal bodies.

Here’s my current shameful confession. I can’t bear to throw away old bibs that still look good.

I have like several pairs of Assos that I should just toss. They look good but the pads are now smashed down enough that the shorts are no longer super comfortable.

I picked up a new pair of Assos and they instantly had the old magic comfort I’ve been missing so now I know what the issue is.

I ride in cotton blend ankle socks from Costco, and love my sock & watch tan. IDGAF.

Today was one of the first nice days in an otherwise cold wet spring so far so I throw the bike on the rack for a gravel loop starting from someone I know’s place who said it’s OK park there. Convinced she lives at 13. Nope, her address is 76 had to text. Get there, forgot HRM and shoes. Decide to do a shorter easier ride anyways, full kit, running shoes.

I bought a Ti Motobecane from Bikesdirect way back in 2011..I still have the bike and have done thousand or rides on it. While it’s been retired for almost three years, the one thing I’ve never replaced or serviced are the brake pads. Those things have lasted since new and still work pretty darn well. I remember telling someone on the group ride that and they were got a little spooked but were surpised as hell.

Don’t need brake pads if you don’t brake.

Tell me you live in Florida?

In California, plenty of hills. There still meat on them too. I guess they might be lifetime pads at this point.

Wait… This isn’t how all pedals are? I have the same issue clipping into my assiomas…

I’d only been on SPD pedals before and they didn’t spin like these Assiomas do. I have some new Shimano road pedals on the way for my trainer so I’ll be curious to see if I have the same issue as the Assioma Duo Shi.

I’ve read more than one long topic on this forum from start to finish.
