I’m 52 years old. 2 years ago I weighed 193lbs, just prior to getting a hip replacement. 3 weeks after the surgery I weighed myself and discovered I was 177lbs. Apparently that sort of healing burns a ton of energy. Highly motivated by what felt like winning the lottery, I worked hard to drop another 10. At that point I was not trying to improve performance, just rehab. By being sensible about my eating, I managed to get down to under 165, then really went after performance gains. I’ve been steady 163-167 for the last 18 months and have enjoyed significant FTP gains. Fuel the workouts with quality food, and avoid the unhealthy snacks and you will get there.
