2018 kicker core… on my 2nd unit which has worked great. The first one had the well known issue of the circuit board frying and no power reading. Wahoo was great and sent me a new one right away. The recent update allows for cadence but as someone mentioned its inaccurate and reads too high between intervals. I also have a bolt which I love, better than Garmin… so easy to do routes and customize screens with the phone app.
Have been using a Bolt myself for a few years and have been continually tempted to buy a Roam but haven’t been able to justify the price.
Any thoughts? How do you like the Road and when do you decide to use one over the other?
I used the Roam on my gravel bike (due to battery life and better maps) and the Bolt on the road. If improved maps or long battery life are priorities, upgrade to the Roam. Also I don’t use varia lights but the Roam has better display for cars coming from behind you if you have Varia.
Hope that helps
Thanks, appreciate it. I do have a Varia and prefer to have my route loaded on most rides.
Sounds like I’d like the Roam.
Im what I would say was an “early adopter” of Wahoo products, I had a first gen RFLKT and a RFLKT+ when my first Garmin pooped. I was mostly commuting at that time and I used my phone anyway, so I figured lets try this. I actually liked it a lot, that RFLKT is actually on my Son’s mountain bike right now, though I got him a Bolt for Christmas.
We had some problems early on with that device, and I contacted Wahoo for help and each time I received a real human response that either had the data I needed in it, or an accurate link to something that would help, eventually they were almost 100% reliable, in fact failures only came when apple changed bluetooth settings in iOS. The fact that there is such an active community and Wahoo has been so responsive is a large part of why I have decided to stick with them over the last few years.
That led me to get a new HRM, so I got a Tickr and then a TickrX both of which still work great, and when I had hip surgery two years ago I knew recovery would be long (I had no idea…) so a friend recommended the KICKR, as he had done 90% of his IronMan bike work on it. I gave it a shot and then ordered one up from Wahoo in November of 17. It has also been flawless, never anything more than occasionally needing to unplug it and plug it back in if I switch from my phone to my laptop for TR. Thats just a bluetooth reset thing, so no issues there.
My experiences with those products led me to buy the ELEMNT when my 500 failed, which I’ve loved, and now I’ve picked up the Bolt for my Son as I said. I’ve also got Speed and Cadence sensors spattered around the bikes for obvious reasons.
My experiences with Wahoo have all been 100%.
I’ll gather them all up later and post a picture with all the devices I have.
Just a KICKR Core here, and couldn’t be happier with it. Have heard some people have had problems with them, but so far it’s been faultless touches wood.
A Tickr and a Bolt for me. Love them both and they just work… unlike the Garmin equivalents which I have had. I use the Komoot with the Bolt for navigation but the map is tricky to follow and the street names are tiny and hard to see with sunglasses. Maybe the roam will be the option.
I have Kickr 2018 (third unit has been running now almost a year). Latest addon is a headwind. The headwind is really impressive product, expect a price. I control it using HR and now I get “headwind” when I needed it most.
2x on that. I don’t really have any regret by spending over 200€ in a fan because it isn’t just a normal fan.
