Vittoria Air Liner - any long term users?

25ish people got punctures / flatted in a gravel race (and who knows how many behind you). That’s insane.

I’ve always used Orange Seal with the Vittoria liners and haven’t had any issues.

Same.

In the three wheelsets I have them installed on, I am only using the valves in one. It can be annoying at times but they’re certainly not required (or long enough)

I went for “Panzer” as it was on sale and at a local distributor. It’s reviewed reasonably well, but I shouldn’t have taken the gamble six days out from my A-Race.

I usually stick with Muc Off.

I added heaps of sealant so hopefully that makes up for the newness.

So nice to see community spirit in action.

Muc-Off valve stems are also work, as they have the multi-directional base where the liner would touch.

I read a lot of positiv comments in this thread but I had a nightmare experience with them. I had the small road size on 19mm internal with a 26mm Corsa Next tire. I tried to get some fresh sealent through the valve in after some months of riding and the rear tire not holding air anymore. I did it with a tubeless syringe but I couldnt get it in. After my A-Race i tried to remove the tires because i thought that the valve might just clogged up. Couldnt remove them with normal tire levers so I ordered (for 25€) the plastic clips and pliers. After two hours and hands covered with blisters I cut them off. Both released air when I stabbed them but the stem valve wasnt clogged. Dont know what went wrong but I cant recommend them with the Next tires. I installed corsa pros yesterday (without the airliners) and they went way easier on the rim than the corsa next (which are a hassle to get on by themself). I wouldnt install anymore except on a wheelset I only use for races. Cant imagine removing them with normal tire levers to install a tube if you get a flat. The idea and safety aspect is great but they not practical for all day use. But Vittoria has a great customer support and they send me replacement tires

Did you use the special valves that stop the air-liners blocking the hole?

That’s about the only injector which also needs an adaptor (not included with the injector) which works for me. Occasionally I use a thin Allen key to poke through the valve

I was thinking these valves with the side holes

But even with these valves I ended up in a similar position to you - still really hard to remove the tyre on the road without the tyre removal claw thingy.

Yeah I have them as an emergency get home for racing time trials where you might be miles from the start with no phone on you to call someone…I couldn’t recommend them for road on the basis it’s a lottery as to how hard they are to get off, even with their special tool.

Maybe I’m off the wall, but apart from the safety, my main reason for them was the ride flat? Alright, speed and distance limited but even then, it’s only if you can’t seal?

Yes I did and I immediatly installed schwalbe pro one’s afterwards and the valve worked just fine. The corsa next are just way to tight and maybe some air was trapped between the airliner and the tire and couldnt release through the valve core. Tbh I wasnt even able to remove the stabbed tire thats how tight the setup with the airliner was. I’ve done a several tubeless setups at this point and also some with cushcore inserts but never had such a tough time. Maybe there are some manufacturer tolerances and the AirLiner was slightly to big and the tire slightly to narrow.

Thats the same thing I have except for the adapter  But the silicon hose is pretty tight at the valve but the adapter looks great. Where did you got it from? Sadly poking the valve doesnt get you anywere with the vittoria valves for the airliner because its basically a dead and and got several holes at the side (if I remember correct)

That adaptor I use for injecting sealant came from my old broken effeto mariposa syringe but my small bosch hand compressor came with the exact same adaptor

edit: it was easy to find on amazon

Is there any harm to poking a hole in the airliner at the spot where it meets the valve?

I just remembered a few weeks ago I destroyed my syringe trying to inject sealant, thought it was the valve/airliner but it turned out my syringe was pretty clogged up making injecting into an already difficult situation impossible

Also handy to carry in case you need to use a filling station/ car compressor in an emergency (hand pump failure!).

I was introduced to them mainly as a safety aspect to prevent pinch flats and burping etc. Because normally, sealant should seal most of the punctures except larger sidewall cuts.
I’m pretty cautious about safety and Geraint Thomas said on one Episode that there were several tire issues at the Tour caused by lower preassures at the cobble stages. He strongly recommended to use inserts because the airliners help to prevent the tire from getting teared off the rim at high speed or rough roads. Normally I’m pretty resistant to marketing claims but he got me with nightmare vision of a teared off tire when decending :joy:
