Seeing that the iPhone 12 now has lidar build in, I was wondering if it would be possible to use this to optimize the position on the bike, in terms of wind resistance? Both on the trainer, but also on the road, but with some dedicated hardware.
It might be able to measure frontal area, but will not measure Cd.
You can also do the old school approach to measure frontal area and take a picture, and measure from the picture.
My take is both of these approaches won’t get what you want however - either because they are too crude at measuring frontal area, or because the aforementioned problem of not measuring Cd.
…and it ain’t just about frontal area…what the air does once it passes over your head is just as important. Any front on system won’t capture this.
