Upload Run and Swim workouts from Garmin/Strava to TR calendar (Feature Request)

We are working on both iOS and Android at the same time, but put iOS into testing first. Android will be coming shortly! :raised_hands:

Right now, yes. But Android is sooo close too. Everything is shared code except the workout player and that’s like a week away from final internal review.

We still want both to launch together, although there’s a chance that it’s iOS first then android a couple weeks afterwards.

It’s not group workouts and it’s not run and swim.

Shame. I just feel that you’ve taken so long now to implement the swim and run imports that I’ve lost interest in TR. All the other training apps manage it but you guys seem to spend all of your time on road racing, crits, and mountain biking. You just need to listen to your podcasts to see this. You seem to have lost all focus on your non racing, triathlon and senior athletes, even though you have said many times that it’s in the pipeline.

huh?
If by all you mean TrainingPeaks. thats OK.
Garmin/polar/device manufacturer “manage it” because they have no other choice. The data comes from their devices.
Strava doesnt do swimming. They track it, but its not what TR wants to give us eventually.

You would be disappointed if TR would give you a very poor implementation of what we ALL want.
Lets hope we dont get that poor implementation and the wait is all worth it.

(Like i said before. As a developer, I have develop a huge petpeve when people complain about things taking so long when they have no idea how is to code all of it.

Intervals.icu does it pretty well. Today’s plan does it the best I’ve seen (they giving running more load than biking)

There’s a difference between a poor implementation and no implementation, at this point I’ve given up trying to load my swim/run workouts into TR because it’s just too much work to keep it up to date.
Even just pulling in the distance and time and marking it as complete, let me estimate TSS (or copy it from somewhere else).

Put it behind a feature flag/make it opt in (they’ve got the support for that did it with the new power match beta) if they’re so concerned about the optics of having a poor implementation. Then those who don’t want it won’t see it, but the rest of us who want it can use it.

Yes… but that’s far from

Also, some argument can be made that Strava, TP, Intervals.icu are more data aggregators than training apps. (I know, I know TP did started as a training app and they do offer training plans…)

Looking and TR and see I did a swim, or had a run does absolutely nothing for me. But i do agree that something is better than what we currently have…

Good point, let’s just start with the imports, make those visible, TSS-ed and ticked off. Of course it will become fancy, but now there is nothing.

I have been trying my best to complete the half distance triathlon plan. I would love to see the swim and run activities automatically uploaded into my TR history. Looks like a feature many triathletes are after.

So @Jonathan has started some running for their 2022 Triathlon challenge. Somehow I think they will finally get the run/swim in place to support their challenge…hmmm. image

Let’s hope so as it feels like we’ve been waiting a long time for this.

Whatever motivation they have, as long as we get what we want.

That’ll be awesome if it’s finally pushed forward because one of the main TR guys needs it for his training… *only half joking

This is all just speculation. Several of the TR guys are planning on doing an IM in 2022. So they don’t really need to start training for it for at least another 6 months. But the guess would be that they would like to be alpha testing the feature when they start training.

We could have been through beta testing for them already.

still would love this, seems like this has been almost 2 years on the backlog, with demand increasing, doesnt it seem like its worth pursuing?

  • Yes, it is. And it’s the reason they said they are already working on it (backfilling runs and swims from what they have said, so they will be “ready” for access when they finally flip the switch on this function). But they have higher priorities at the moment that are coming first, so this is still effectively on the back-burner for now.

Sorry being a pain in the ass again, about this, but after more than 2 years waiting, any excuses are just… empty, for lack of a better word. Those priorities must be really something magnificente, even revolutionary, that all of us who asked so much for running et al in the calendar all this time, even if it was only the basics, will have a blast!! I’m sorry, but my renewal is coming in the next week, and I can’t help having the most awful sensation about it. Even if it is only 99USD for me, I have to rationalise A LOT to not drop, such is the feeling that this is only a half product, and that me, and at least for a few others, have been simply dispised or fooled to wait. It’s been basically so much bullshit, ans so much time, that when it comes it will feel like nothing, that it is only late. Congrats!

If you speak for all in Trainerroad (I don’t remember you in the beginning of this thread, may be my fault, I am sorry if it is so), I don’t know what to make or how to classify this answer… unsensible, arrogant?..
I have no doubts that whatever you will come up with will be good. How good, I am sorry it is not your place to judge I would say. Certainly it will be the best thing in the world, and indifferent, and all in between, depending on who you ask - to different people with different priorities it will suit differently. It could be even the worst you could have done for a few. Like everything else, here or anywhere else! It is a heterogeneouse crowd - and that may be challenging but it is always a positive in my opinion, even from a business perspective.
For you and that answer at this time in this old and long topic, well… If you don’t have anything sensible or helpful to say, better not say anything, imho. What part of having some people here fed up of waiting for ever for something they had plenty of opportunitty to state how important it is for them, and for all the promises never having been given any shadow of a credible timeline or something solid…?
For this kind of feedback, I will not intervene anymore here. I have been away from this forum for most of the time in the last year, as there have not been much worthy news that I am aware of, but certainly I never had the feeling before that this is how you on traineroad took thing on - shallow!.
Sorry the long post, but that’s how much I feel for this. Won’t bother no more.
Regards
