Upload Run and Swim workouts from Garmin/Strava to TR calendar (Feature Request)

1+ for me! For us doing Tris this would be amazing.

Also I started running with a stryd running powermeter, it works great. It would be really cool if runs could use the power data from the stryd. Looking forward to another great release.

@Nate_Pearson any news on group workouts for Mobile?

No public updates at the moment :slightly_frowning_face:. Our team is still chugging away at building the new application, and the Group Workouts will be a follow-up feature that will likely come a bit after the initial release.

will swim/run come after the new app or before?
It would make sense that would come after tho.

The new application is prioritized before Run/Swim support :+1:

One quick simple one if you guys are adding run / swim.

I want to be able to change metrics between Sports’s…

Run is in miles - pace min/miles
Swim is in meters - pace is /100m
Bike - is a can of worms but let us choose

Sorry if I’ve lost track among several comments: which application is this? Windows, mobile, both, or what? Thanks.

My best guess would be the mobile (Apple/Android) app that has been referenced a lot lately. Nate said it is getting close and they are squashing bugs right now, with a goal of a Fall training season release.

@Bryce Do you only want to import the workouts via Strava in the first step or do you want us to give more input?

for example, i can give input for running, but think it’s more complex, for example, in Training Peaks i created a Library for Running with the workouts of TR Tri Plan, more or less i tried to convert them to run with Stryd.

here one workout i can send to my Garmin watch:

i use them with my Garmin watch same was as i do rides with TR App or TR Outdoor workout , that means, my watch give me alarms when i run to hard or to low based on percent of my Running FTP

If you need more infos, please let me know and i will give it a try!

A couple of different things in this post. First is activity ingestion. Getting activities from other apps involves accepting the various file formats out there, and connecting to other apps using your credentials. TR already does both of these things, connecting with Strava, Garmin, TrainingPeaks and Final Surge (look at Account/Profile/RideSync to see the list). TR does all that - except it filters out anything that’s not a bike ride.

Second is the other way around - sending workouts to devices. That’s the holy grail: a single location for the training plan, where workouts are defined and planned, sent to whichever device will be used to execute/monitor the workout, and the results brought back into a single location for all activity data. That part is far from simple. Look at how much time it took TR to get that done with Garmin alone, then eventually with Wahoo, for cycling workouts. And note how limited/clunky the workout editor in TR is - for a good reason, the underlying model is for them to provide the programs and workouts.

I think the first part (ingestion) is simple and can be expected relatively fast. The second one (workout management), I would not hold my breath for.

From the sounds of some of Nate’s posts, they are already bringing in the other workouts, but they just aren’t doing anything with them yet (at least not on our end…).

Indeed - once you establish a connection with a source such as Strava or Garmin Connect, you get access to all the activities. There’s nothing really different between a running or cycling .fit file. Currently TR is probably receiving all the activities, and just ignoring any non-cycling ones.

Comments from Nate in the past indicate that they have already been backfilling run and swim workouts behind the scenes. Its an effort to make it instant access when the finally turn on the switch for those activities.

Thanks for the info! That helps us know what our users are looking for in terms of cues for activities like runs, and while we are working on improving what our support for runs would look like, we can’t yet share details as to what all that involves! :zipper_mouth_face:

hopefully soon-ish we will know.
Really looking fwd to all of this!

Yeah, I’d love that. I don’t find it difficult to create a workout for a garmin watch in the connect app based on the descriptions in the TR plan, but it’s time consuming.

I believe it’s been two years waiting for this.

Almost.

actually we will probably need to wait longer.
They already said this is coming after the mobile app update.

I wish I could provide a more concrete timeline for when this is rolling out, Im sorry that I don’t have more information at the moment. We know its been a long time since we first received this feature request, but trust me, this feature is DEFINITELY on the roadmap, and we know our athletes want this to be high priority!
