We’re not disagreeing. I’m just saying it’s very likely it might be bad in some scenarios, and really no impact in others and a sliding scale. It was just a brief discussion with Fatty and Hottie on their Slack Channel after they posted it. Really it wasn’t much more than that. (Can’t link to that - but basically I said what I said here, and got a “100%” in agreement)
But, Josh from Silca has also said many many times that what works for one person, won’t necessarily work for others. And, very small changes can make big differences. One of there examples were some things that worked for DJ or delivered benefits for DJ, didn’t deliver the benefits for Ben Delaney.
If you haven’t already, I think they did like 3-4 episodes on Wind Tunnels and Aero Testing on the Marginal Gains podcast if you want to geek out on it.
10-52 cassette is for 1x drivetrain only. There is only so much chain wrap that a RD can take up. If you go 2x in the front, you have to go smaller cassette in the rear. 1x often gives more gear range then 2x setups, but you get smaller jumps between gears with 2x. There are folks (including me) who have played around with the big cassettes with 2x drivetrain. You can kind of get it working with limited gears available, but it sucks and it’s not usable in my opinion.
Oh damn. Rest up. Hope you recover quickly. Certainly travel and a long grueling race weakens the immune system then getting exposed to Covid is not the recipe you want.
Thanks good info… I did not know and was wondering why no one bump up to 52…thanks again when I make the transition from MTB to gravel I will keep this in mind and prior will play with bigger chain ring on my MTB…Thanks again
I read somewhere else that Morton said that he had back issues thus opening up the hip angle.
I love how minimalist Morton is. I mean, no hydration pack, no top tube bag, no seat bag. Just a couple of bottles and a pocket full of gels.
The presence of world tour and ex-WT pros was huge this year. The spirit of gravel is officially dead. Now it’s just a full on race with factory support. The pit stops were blisteringly fast this year.
Pretty sure he’s wearing a hydration pack built in to his speedsuit. He also had a full team supporting him at each pit stop and, undoubtedly, months of support from a WT team leading up to the event.
I stopped with a group of 10, in the group was former winner jermaiah bishop, he said let’s stop for water. Everyone stopped, got water, I made sure the aid person took JB his bike. The whole group was gone, I left since I didn’t want to go at JB pace to catch back on. Took him some time to catch the group. No one cared to wait till everyone had water
