Hi all.
Creating a thread to discuss and monitor the UCI road world champs this year, currently planned to be held in Rwanda.
Cheers to UCI to try to promote cycling in Africa, but quite scary the level of current dysfunction there with the civil war (or whatever you want to call it) on the border. Some really scary stuff, check out the news on it.
Do you folks think there is a realistic chance of this race actually happening there?
Do you think it’s irresponsible for the UCI to indirectly pressuring athletes to go to this unstable region? I say pressuring because these athletes work their whole lives to race in a world championship, so I’m sure they wouldn’t miss it for the world. But any reasonable person knows it’s totally unsafe to be near a war-zone.
Interested to hear other’s thoughts.
